Space Battleship Yamato: The Universal Struggle

Timeline and Events leading to 2199

A/N: First of all, I'll make it clear that I do not own the Anime and this is a fanfiction so anything goes as long as it makes sense or aligns with the storyline. I've decided to take a break from my previous book; "Arpeggio of Blue Steel: Butterfly Effect" simply because I've got inspiration to start something related to space battles. The game "Dreadnought" provided me with ideas and I had a conversation with my friend earlier last week about space ships and their particular features. Those who are new to me and my work, welcome! I write simply to entertain so please be casual with me, and I will do the same to you. English is not my first language by the way so excuse any mistakes I would make for this particular story.

1990-2010: These are the years of "First Contact" and humanity succeeded in remaining as the victor. Against all odds, they used old tactics to win against the so called "aliens". From huge floating spaceships, to surface based craft and smaller units, they were all somehow stopped by human efforts. After dealing with these unknown beings, their technology are taken for reverse engineering and studying more about the extraterrestrial. From there, humanity embarked on it's major research programs to unify the 3 branches of the military. Combining the Army, Navy and Air Force as one. Crime rates are low because everyone is clear on a single thing; distrust for aliens. With countless innovations, humanity faced danger of depleting resources and they require more space to fit its increasing population. They now looked towards their neighbouring planet, the red planet Mars.

2011-2019: Governments placed huge budgets for space programs and researches relating to such field. The Union of Soviet Socialist Republic contributed in the effort rather than isolating herself from the world as the system of government never collapsed as there were no Cold War. Blueprints for spaceships are drawn and their source of energy studied, weapons are enhanced and given priority. In 2016, humanity launched its first spaceship into the orbit and work began on more, including defense satellites to protect Earth against invaders. 2 years later, researchers found a way to harness the power of Tachyons, a special particle that "always" moves faster than light. However it would take more years to understand and implement the power on spaceships, which would also make FTL travel possible to any system they wish to go.

2020-2050: With a growing space program, Earth establishes the Cosmo Navy to defend the planet from alien attacks. Their resolve strong to resist and push back invaders that have tried to take Earth and wipe out humanity from the surface. More spaceships are launched and improvement to armor and weapons are given, including the idea of a Wave Motion Engine. Mars has long been terra-formed and humans have settled there, thriving the same as on Earth and there are more grounds for experiment to create an efficient way to send ships to space. The construction of the Red Dockyard began and spaceships were also built here soon after it's completion. The Cosmo Navy celebrates its founding and held shows for the people, displaying the might of humanity, following this would be the steady rise for medical improvement. Civilians are given easy access to health equipment and resources without having to see a doctor and discern their illness. The years have been nothing but trying to grow the Cosmo Navy with more spaceships with various designs and shapes.

2051-2100: Work began on 2 secret projects, they are hidden in the eyes of the public and the military are keeping a close eye on the progress. Japan has been chosen as the nation to conduct the project deep underground, resources filled the country for the research and the completion was due for 2150 because complications to understand new technology became an issue. Researchers invented a way to protect cities through plasma shield generators, the same case were given to the Cosmo Navy and their spaceships.

2190: Bad news arrived for the Cosmo Navy, sighting of alien crafts were seen on Pluto and surrounding it. Visual suggests a possible terra-forming, the enemy were at the Gates. Orders are given to hasten all their military projects and spaceships are sent to scout the dwarf planet and if possible, make contact with the alien presence to know their intentions. Without FTL travel, it took longer than expected to reach the destination. But rumours have been going that the Wave Motion Engine is now complete and ready to be installed on spaceships but not the old ships that the Cosmo Navy have, the engine requires a whole new ship design. This was in 2170 when politicians were demanding for exposure on what the Navy was up to.

2191: Earth's "First Contact" with the Garmillas. There many disputes amongst politicians and their distrust of aliens. The order for engagement was given. Humanity strikes first ever since all the invasions they've waded through. The War of Pluto began almost immediately and the Cosmo Navy prepares their whole force and sent them to Mars in preparation for future combat.

The Garmillas had simply wished to have negotiations with Earth and if possible, allow the humans or "Terron" to surrender and be under the Empire's rule. Such dreams were crushed when the first Terron ship fired on their spaceship and ignited an unavoidable war.

The US Government issued for a state of emergency almost immediately and all it's resources are diverted for war. Japan had the reason to hurry with their project, the first one had been completed and the last one was to be done by 2199. It was currently the year 2191, the first chapter of a tale that displays humanity's deterrence in defending themselves. There are many casualties ahead of them, and it is still not sure whether it is mostly for them or the aliens. But what is for sure, whatever path Earth took.. it would still escalate to all-out war.

A/N: That's it for an insight to what happened before humanity met Garmillas. If you've seen the anime, it is said that the Garmillas were not the first to draw their weapons. The first chapter starts after this, so look forward to what happens next. It'll not just be before 2199, but I will have it span up to 2202 or more.
