"I'm sorry I'm sorry I'm so so sorry! It's my fault..."
"Shh, it's okay it's okay. Calm down. It'll be alright-- look, he's waking up."
Yoongi's eyes flutter open. He squints and peers at the people above him.
Hoseok, who looks serious for once, stares down at him with furrowed eyebrows. "Are you okay? How many fingers am I holding up?" He holds up and hand.
Yoongi grunts and tries to sit up. "Three. What happened?" He winces as a shot of pain flies through his head.
Jungkook looks guiltily at Yoongi with tears in his eyes. "I'm so sorry hyung!" he sobs. "I-I didn't mean to, really. I j-just wanted to tell y-you I made you an extra small cake. S-so you could take a break and eat it." He presents a little vanilla cake with chocolate icing on it. "I-I'm really sorry hyung." His cries start forming little hiccups as he tries to stop the tears. He presses his lips together and sniffs.
Yoongi doesn't know why, but he feels a pain that isn't from his throbbing head while seeing Jungkook like this.
"Hey, listen," he looks at Jungkook in the eyes "It's okay. I'm alright. I'm still breathing, yeah? Don't beat yourself up about it. But, what happened?"
"The bag dropped on your head when you fell," says Hoseok. "Luckily, Kookie caught you before you hit your head on the ground. But you did go unconscious. Those bags are pretty heavy."
"Oh," Yoongi says. He looks down at himself for the first time since waking up. He's covered in powdered sugar.
He looks ridiculous.
Despite being in pain, Yoongi begins to laugh.
Hoseok hesitates before smiling and chuckling along with him. And soon enough, all three of them were laughing together.
Yoongi sighs, his laughter dying down. He places a hand on Jungook's shoulder, "It's okay Jungkook. Do you still have that cake?"
Jungkook nods.
"How about you go get a few forks and we'll all share it?"
Jungkook smiles excitedly before rushing off to grab the utensils.
When he returns, he sits back down on the floor and cuts the cake into little pieces, putting them on napkins for his hyungs.
When they had all finished eating the little cake, Yoongi stands and dusts his apron off a bit. He looks over to the metal refrigerator and laughs again when he sees his reflection.
His hair isn't even its normal shade of blond anymore. It's white and messy, with strands sticking up here and there.
"You should go home," Hoseok says, "take a shower and get some rest. Maybe put some ice on your head too. I'll give you the rest of the day off."
"Oh, okay." Yoongi says. "Yeah, you're probably right." He starts walking out of the kitchen, Jungkook at his heels.
"It's really okay, hyung? You feel alright? I'm so sorry. I--"
Yoongi ruffles his hair. "That's enough Jungkook. I'm fine, now go get back to work, these customers are going to sue if you take too long." He said smiling a little.
Jungoook hesitates but nods, "Okay hyung. I'll do my best!" He runs off back to the kitchen.
Yoongi walks out of the café and begins walking down the sidewalk, avoiding eye contact with the people outside.
What a day.
Yoongi thinks about the way Jungkook had looked at him when he woke up. How he had apologized over and over again.
He caught me?
Yoongi wonders why he would do that. Maybe he felt obliged to. If Yoongi had any real injuries, Jungkook might have had to pay his hospital fees. That would have been a mess.
He must have not wanted that sort of guilt on his conscience. Yeah, that must have been it.
But as Yoongi makes his way home, he can't seem to stop thinking about the taste of the little vanilla and chocolate cake.
