Chapter Four

After Ava woke up again she discussed her dream's with June Darby and Ratchet, she was still a bit skeptical about Doctors and Nurses and all that but she was starting to warm up to them but only by a bit. June asked Ratchet to leave so the two could talk, he went into the other with the others. June asked Ava to turn around and lift her shirt up, she nodded and did as she was asked, the nurse noticed she had cuts and bruises on her back, trying to ignore it she placed her stethoscope on her back just behind the lungs "Breathe in and hold" June said Ava followed her instructions, she breathed in then held it for a minute, she released her breath; June placed her medical instrument on the other side and asked her to do it again, she did and flinched when she breathed in a lot of air. She breathed out immediately after taking the breath "it hurt to breathe?" the nurse asked, Ava put down her shirt and turned back around facing June, she nodded.

After about an hour June walked back into the other room with a saddened look on her face, Ratchet looked down at her with worried optics, he activated his holoform and walked up to the adult femme "what happened?" he asked, June sighed and looked up at the medic "it's Ava, she has a damaged lung" everyone was shocked at the news, the kids lowered their heads and the Agent did the same a bit saddened then the doctor broke the silence "how did this occur?" he asked, June sighed once more "she somehow bruised her lung, could be from a fall or punch to the chest but the worst part is, I don't know how bad or how long she has" she explained, Ratchet now sighed "you did your best Nurse Darby, we'll figure this out" he assured her and sat her down on a chair in a corner as he sat on a couch beside her, Fowler came up to her and rested a hand on her shoulder. The medic was hesitant at speaking again "di...did you tell her?" he quietly wondered, the nurse shook her head, Ratchet lowered his head, shutting his eyes and sighed "that may be best, we wouldn't want her to believe we did it to her" he stated, everyone nodded and the field medic's holoform disappeared and the Ratchet walked out of the room headed towards his quarters.

Ava woke up again, she heard herself wheeze a bit every time she breathed in, she was confused by the sound not ever hearing it before when she breathed. Nurse Darby walked in and noticed the teenager was awake , she walked over to her and sat by her side "Ava your having trouble breathing now so, while you were resting I picked up an inhaler for you, it will help you breathe better" June handed the small plastic device over to the girl, she took it and put it in her mouth "two sprays when your having trouble breathing and hold your breath for ten seconds" the nurse instructed, Ava nodded and did as she was instructed, she took the device out of her mouth and didn't hear herself wheeze Ava looked up at the nurse "thanks, but I never had that issue before" she wrote, June had a saddened look on her face, Ava noticed this and tilted her head "what is it?" she wrote down a page, June looked her in the eyes and sighed "Ava.. you...have a bruised lung, and I don't know the extent of the injuries unless you come with me to the hospital to get a chest x-ray",

Ava lowered her head and thought it over, she shook her head "I'm not going back to that place" she stated on a page, "how much damage can a bruised lung cause?", June tried to put it as simple as possible for her "a bruised lung can cause serious damage to the body if left untreated, if it's left untreated for too long, the lung will eventually stop working all together and will kill you" she said, Ava furrowed her eyebrows and curled her hands in fists "dammit!" she mouthed and tears started streaming down her face, June didn't want to say anything else but rested a hand on her fist "do you know how this could've happened?" she asked quietly, Ava nodded and looked back up at the nurse "as far as I could remember was my parent's beating on me occasionally, since they thought it would solve all their god damn problem's, heh, I'm kinda glad they abandoned me, they weren't good parent's from the beginning" she wrote down, June nodded "alright, you stay here I will be right back" she told the girl and left the room.

Ava looked around the room, just noticing the huge devices that were as tall of skyscrapers maybe taller. As she looked around, she didn't notice the nurse come in "Ava, now I need you to keep calm. I have a friend who is coming in and he's rather friendly" Ava looked over slightly hearing what June had said but she nodded anyway, a orange and white robot walked in, she watched with her mouth a gap as he got closer to her. He kneeled down and looked down at her "I'm Ratchet, I am a medic. We have met before just not in the best of situations", Ava recognized that voice and realized it was the Doctor that tried to help her at the hospital and here, he held his arm in front of him "I am just going to scan you since you don't like hospital's and it's completely safe, you won't feel anything" the medic stated, she didn't anything to say and if she did, she couldn't get her mouth to move, she closed her mouth and nodded, she started the scanning process and shut the scanner off after receiving the results, he narrowed his optics seeing if they weren't tricking him "Nurse Darby, may I speak to you in private please" he asked the adult femme, she nodded and followed the medic out of the room.

Ratchet led the nurse into the hallway, he made sure they were far enough away from the others "Nurse Darby, that girl is not human, she has a cybertronian processor and the damage to her lung is severe enough that should be offlined by now" the medic explained, June was a bit confused "how is that possible? And how is her lung affecting her now?" she asked, the medic thought about it for minute "my guess would be that since she's is or not all cybertronian things like this won't affect her so quickly or as normal as it should" he explained, June crossed her arms "OK, so how are supposed to tell her?" she wondered, Ratchet shook his helm "we don't at least not until I found out more" he told her. "Alright, are we gonna tell the others?" she asked, the orange and white medic thought about it "I will explain the situation to them, but we shouldn't tell the children, not until we know what she is" June nodded and followed the field medic into the separate room from the fifteen year old, she led this kids to her car and drove out of the base while Ratchet explained everything they knew about Ava to the bots.
