One Thousand Words

A/N I am like insanely proud and excited for this one! It took me two hours, but it is finally here!

One Thousand Words:
They say a picture is worth a thousand words
Why are words valued as less?
You can describe, and draw things like birds
So wouldn't both be best?

It is easier for me to represent things using meaningful rhythms and rhymes
So how come they say only pictures can represent these different times?
It is easier to simply type something than take hours to draw
But people don't realize the difficulty to come up with these at all

Do you really think it is simple, to come up with the rhymes and the spacing?
To convey things in a way that makes sense, while choosing unique words and placing
It comes from the heart, just as a drawing may
But no, a picture describes something better than what one thousand words has to say

What if someone loses their sight? Do you think sticking to pictures is still what is right?
Words can lull you to sleep, and tuck you in tight
Words can be read, listen to, and felt in the heart
Gives an understanding, doing their part

Words can be stories that gives some excitement, has a story to tell
But I will not argue that pictures do not do this in a way as well
Words can be song lyrics that can be sung to a tune, for fun or emotion
Words can calm, as well, and also start more commotion

They help paint your own picture, "She has brown eyes, and curly blonde hair"
Whereas a picture just shows you the facts, no room for imagination anywhere
No room for figuring what they look like in your own mind
Like if their hair is really thick, or a bit more fine

Words have a kind of beauty, you can't find anywhere else
Not in all the photos in the world, but just in a book on the shelf
They speak to your soul in a way an image couldn't
You can say anything with words, and a picture just wouldn't

Sure you can draw a sunset, but have you tried describing how it smells?
Using words, you can view the world differently
It's amazing, can't you tell?
You take something known for a specific sense, and throw that all away
Incredible it is, to see your points of view different today

How does that pillowcase make you feel? Does it make you inspired or smile?
Or does it have a sadder feel, longing for things that have been gone for a while.
Does the thicker air make you feel warm inside
Or is it just harder to breath?
Does it make you sense an outdoor campfire?
Or do you want it to leave?

The crunch of leaves under your feet in early December
Does it satisfy you?
Or bring back things you forgot to remember
The warmth of the carpet in line of a window that fills you up with heat
Does it just make you fuzzy inside?
Or do you feel less incomplete

When you are in complete darkness, in your room at night
Does it rattle your bones, or help you sleep more tight?
Would that smell like cherry blossoms appearing in late May?
Or would that be more like mint mountain air, if you got a say

Words can say things that simply cannot be in picture form
When you remember the earliest memories, nearest to when you were born
Or how the wallpaper makes you want change, or go back to old ways you were before
And how you don't understand how you are this, and used to be a little girl the adults adored

Now you are older, changing by the day
Sometimes it's fine like this, sometimes I wish I would stay
Grapefruit smells as if I'm unsure of what I've become
Do I like how I am now, or was I better when I was young

You see, all of these connections between different senses probably make you wonder
This is why words are important, they help you decide and ponder
They are the root of amazing creativity, the deep kind that makes you feel incomplete
The kind that feels like felt, and smells like green tea

A picture can make you visualize, but then again the visual is right there
But words, make you figure it out, into space you would then stare
A picture is a picture is a picture, it is the view, it looks the same
But words, based on the way they're read can mean other things under claim

Words can hide a deep meaning, really, under all of the fun little rhymes
It can connect to the author's heart with different feelings, emotions, and times
Or it can be simple pretty words that is up to the readers choice
It allows them to really think for themselves and help them find their voice

This one is an example of both, it has little secrets here and there
But it is always up to you to ignore them, or find them everywhere
This is also for you to consider if you're having a hard time around
If all isn't working well for you, just look at the world upside down

Words can help people find their way, if you use them right
To those that value pictures as much more, just read some of the words that're more bright
If the words you can find aren't proving my point, try writing some yourself
Soon it will be a necessity and you'll have collections to put on the shelf

Writing is a great passion, whether stories, books, poems, or other things
You can write about the happy times, or things that really sting
This poem is long, but I'm glad you're here for this part
A lot of thinking went into this, especially from the heart
If any of this made you wonder, value words more, or even guess
I guess that the word count on this just proves that a picture might matter less

A/N If you count all of the words in the poem (not including the title) it is exactly one thousand words, going by the ridiculous saying it is worth one picture. Do you see how inaccurate that saying is now? The poem literally took me 2 hours lol. Thanks for reading <3
