It felt like hours before I found the next page. By now I was surely lost in these woods. I took many Zig Zaggy paths that will make it impossible for me to turn around now. The second page was literally placed on a tree that looked like it was made of glass. The detailing in the bark was outstanding. The light reflected off of the tree and blinded me for a few seconds so I had decided to keep the flash light low as I approached it. When I did, I noticed that snow was around the tree. It looked like it was in a perfect circle around it. I stepped onto the snow and I put my hand on the glass but instantly drew it back. This was not glass. It was too cold, too wet. This was ice. I walked around the tree until I found it. The next note. It wasn't tacked into the tree like the last one had been. No. This was worse.
Instead the note had been inside of the ice. Mocking me with how perfectly clear it looked. I made the mistake of just putting my hand on it to take it off and that's when I realized that this was a cruel game. I let out a sigh and I backed away from it for a second, trying to make sense of what I should do. I didn't have anything on me besides for the flash light and I doubted that it would be enough to chip the tree away to expose the note.
I backed away and looked around trying to see if I could make anything a suitable weapon for this. At first I had thought of just using big hunks of rock. Bashing it into the tree. I was hoping for something, anything. But it wasn't working in my favor. Infact, it looked like it wasn't even making a dent in the ice. But I tried again. And again. I even went ahead and started using sharper rocks to slice the thing. But even that wasn't working out. How the hell were they expecting me to get it out.
"Any ideas?" I mumbled to myself hoping someone would give me an answer.
Nope.
I frowned and then I turned around. I was ready to just leave this note behind and search for the rest of them first. I shined my light ahead of me to start the journey when I noticed a little shine reflecting back at me. I raised an eyebrow and slowly made my way to the source. In plain sight was a lighter. It was a plain green lighter with a metal top. I made a note that it was probably the metal that got a little reflect to it.
Now with the papers in one hand and the flash light and lighter in the other, I made my way back to the tree. It stood there proudly. It really was a marvelous tree. And I for one was already sick of it.
I folded the papers and put them in my back pocket. Then I took the lighter and I flicked it on. I looked at the flame, it wasnt the traditional orange color. Instead it was a dark purple. It flicked and swirled in strange patterns. It was unnatural. I decided to then just go with it and I put the flame to the tree near the paper. Careful to not actually burn the paper I watched as the tree started to melt.
When I got halfway to the paper, I heard a slight buzzing sound. It was low but annoying and thinking nothing of it I payed attention to the work I had ahead of me. It didn't take long for the slight buzzing to turn into full on static. I whined and then put my hands on my ears, stopping the melting process.
Run.
I turned around and darted into the woods. I didn't know what he was protecting me from but I knew that it was strong and full of hate.
'could that be the boss?'
I kept running not really paying too much attention to where I was going. I kept running dodging things and then I came across a small barn. It looked hellish. The red paint was peeling. Moss and vines contorted around the barn, suffocating it. My only thought was why there was even a barn out here in the first place. I was suspicious of it and therefore knew that this was the exact place to look for a note. I walked around the building, letting myself catch my breath.
