I gathered up enough strength to stop myself from walking. It took over an hour before they finally let me have control over my body. By time they did I had already wondered off about a mile or so deep into the woods. You see, the thing about me, is that I'm not very smart. So I had no clue what to do when it came to my turn to walk. At first I decided to just turn around but as soon as I did that I could hear their laughter in the back of my head. I didn't know what to do from then so I decided just to keep walking that way in hopes that some how I'd come across a street.
I looked up and noticed that it got a lot darker than it should've. It looked like I was walking in the dead of night. A shiver ran down my spine and I wrapped my arms around myself. "What's going on?... " I asked turning my head from side to side but I got no answer in reply. I decided to keep walking eventhough it was hard to see.
Then I saw it. A little beam of light coming from a bush. It illuminated the surroundings it was in and from that I could see the bush it was under and a few trees. But... The tree closest to the light had something tacked to it. It reminded me of the first time I went into the woods and I found that note. I decided to go over to it, just to investigate the light.
Many questions ran through my head. 'how did that light get there?' 'had it always been this dark?' 'what was that paper?' just to name a few.
I made it up to the bush and reached my hand down and grabbed the light source. To my surprise it was a flash light. It had a silver metal handle with splotches of red on it. I didn't dwell on what the red could've been. I then decided to check the note. I shined the light on the tree and I read.
"Little mouse has returned? Fine. Let's play a game. There's no escape now. The big man is after you. Survive the game and you'll be able to leave the woods. Don't? Well, you don't want to know.
The game is simple. All you need to do is walk around the woods with this flash light and this activator page.
Do not loose this page or you will be instantly disqualified and you'll be killed.
All you need to do is walk around and find 8 pages. They could be tacked anywhere. They can switch locations. So just because you checked one section of the trees and nothing was there, don't think that you'll just avoid them for the rest of the game.
Each time you find a page, the game difficulty increases. The pages start appearing and disappearing at random and the boss man will get angrier at you. He will try to show himself to you...
Whatever you do do not look at him. That is how he will kill you. If you see him, turn around and go the other way. But don't forget to check that area afterwards. Most likely he is trying to guard the paper your missing.
Are you ready? "
I noticed that the note was written in the same sloppy handwriting that the other one was in. It wasn't hard to point out the obvious rush that the person was in to get it out. And to that, I say nay. My heart stopped for a second and my face turned up into a snarl. I wanted to desperately crumple up the paper and toss it onto the floor but I knew I had to take the threat serious. I let out a defeated sigh and then I turned around.
The mood of the woods changed significantly. It was silent. There were no sounds of animals. No sounds of wind. It was eerie and hard to see. Even with the flashlight there was a thick layer of fog that covered the whole area. It reminded me of a game my brother so desperately tried to get me to play.
But what was the name? What did this remind me of? I shook my head and I started my search. If this is level one it would mean that it shouldn't he too hard to find this paper. I didn't know what I was expecting to look for. Would the paper have something? Or would it be blank. What happened if there was some other paper not part of the game on the tree. How would I know to tell the two apart. I started walking and then I noticed that I couldn't even hear the sounds of my own feet walking along the grass. Even after trying to stomp on some dead leaves and twigs, no sound came from them snapping.
I heard the voices start laughing at me. They were amused, but I knew that they would be of no help.
I was going to be completely alone for this. I just hopped that if things got too serious they would step up and help me. But then again, they were lazy assholes.
We can hear your thoughts you know. That was a little uncalled for.
I laughed a little bit. That was the bit of humor that I was looking for to get me through the rest of this "game" I just hopped that it wasn't as bad as this note made it out to be.
I walked around looking at everything suspiciously. I turned every rock over. Looked at the same tree four times. Everything was getting inspected.
I found the first page 100 yards away from the original note. It was tacked onto a dead tree, where the note was placed it looked all rotted. Ants and maggots crawled around the note. A corner was ripped off. I gagged and I resisted the urge to throw up. I ripped the paper off before looking at it to avoid any insects crawling all over it and then I looked down at it. It was a crude drawing of a few trees and a long stick figure next to it. There was a few bold No's all around the paper. I cracked a victorious smile.
1 down, seven more.
I started to walk again and the air grew cold. I clenched the now folded notes in one hand and wrapped it around myself and I used the other hand to direct the beam of light. It was too cold to be summer. This was late fall weather. I was in just a short sleeved shirt and so my arms were exposed to goose bumps. I started breathing from my mouth when my nose started to burn from the cold. I could see my breath. I could feel the blood rising to my cheeks trying to help me get warm. This was dangerous.
If page two was going to be this bad I didn't know how all the other pages were going to be.
