“This happened”. She pointed to the billboards with Jin’s smiling face on them.
“Also this happened”, she once more pointed to the engraving on her wrist as they lurked over the hills overlooking Seoul.
Seraphina looked at Jin with pinched eyebrows. “And through it all, your wrists are completely clean”.
Jin stared down at his exposed wrist, then looked back up to Seraphina. He still couldn’t fathom what was happening. All he could do was blink at the words clearly etched across her pure skin.
She sighed, motioning over to a lonesome bench on the hill. “You better sit down”.
He did as told, teeth still chattering even when the jacket Seraphina had given him hid his form from the world.
She seemed unaffected by the cold, yet the gentleman in him made him offer her jacket back.
She waved her hand disinterested, instead, taking a seat beside him.
Nothing much had changed about her. Tight curls still framed her face which was deepening with a frown, and cheeks remained at the fullest. Ironically, It made Jin feel somewhat relieved that he could still see the white aura cascading her body.
When they had ventured out of the city, even when Jin made sure to cover his face, his eyes hadn’t gone blind to the fact that he no longer noticed any red strings trailing among on-goers. It had made a tumultuous panic settle in his gut as he realized not only he and Seraphina, but anyone and everyone saw the engravings on their wrists.
The morning sun tipped over the city of Seoul, and everything seemed almost normal. Almost.
Yet sitting there on the calm hill set aside from the bustling city, Jin knew there had been a shift. He could feel it.
He pursed his lips, embracing the silence and allowing the cold to seal his lips shut.
Seraphina didn’t speak for a while.
“How much do you know?”
“Hm?”
She was unblinking, repeating her question. “How much do you know?”
Jin released the warm breath from his mouth and slumped his shoulders. “Nothing”, he said, frustrated.
More silence.
The nausea hadn’t quite left him, and he felt it swirling around in his empty stomach.
Seraphina lightly hummed, and it surprised Jin to find it rather heavenly-sounding. A simple tune which fell onto the breezes of the seeping air, yet carried its way up and beyond, finding an abode in the skies.
He took a moment to notice just how defined and pure her aura was. There were no flawed sparkes or seeping reds, instead, glowing white lined her form. As if she had read his mind, she asked, “Do you know of Angels?”
She turned to him, and he could’ve sworn he’d seen an outline of wings. Jin sucked in his breath, afraid to utter a single word.
Seraphina watched him patiently, until he finally said, “Like the gatekeepers of heaven…”
She looked thoughtful. “Hmm...ya, I guess that could be a way to put it. Heaven itself is a complex term, but-”, she sighed, and then her blue irises matched him straight in the eyes. “I’m an Angel”.
“Ok”. He blinked once, expecting to hear it, yet ears taking a moment to let those words sink into his skull. What she uttered next is what took him off guard.
