It was late at night when I decided to test the cloak to see if I can find that book Hermione wanted with Fawkes by my side, on my shoulder as usual. In my hand I held a lantern as I walked through the dark library, my ears were twitching at every sound as I unlocked the restricted section, and it opened with a loud creek making me on edge as I walked through.
"Come on...Nicolas Flamel." I whispered as Fawkes was with me clucking. "Famous fire eaters...15th Century Fiends...Flamel...Nicolas Flamel...where are you?" I whispered. "It's not easy feather duster." I muttered and Fawkes pecked me and I glared.
I took my cloak off and placed the lantern down, and grabbed the book I got, and opened it to reveal a man's face.
"AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!" A man screamed.
I slam the book in fright as I put it back, no doubt Filch is on his way to find me as I rushed.
"Who's there?!" Filch's voice came and I whip around, grabbing my cloak swiftly, Unfortunately during that, lamp falls and shatters. "I know you're in there. You can't hide." He said and I puts on my cloak and creep around Filch as Fawkes was beside me, keeping quiet as we went. "Who is it? Show yourself!" Filch said.
When I got around him safely I ran swiftly and quietly away from him, breathing heavily as I did when I went down the hall where Ms Norris was and the cat meows, and follows me and I swear she sees through my cloak as I run around the corner, jumping out of my skin when Severus and Quirrell's senses appear suddenly, as Severus pushes Quirrell against the wall.
"Severus...I-I thought..." Quirrell stuttered and I narrowed my eyes at him. I don't like his fake stutter, why does he fake it?
"You don't want me as your enemy, Quirrell." Severus said to him as he wanted to know what the man was up to and he wanted him away from Worth.
"W-what do you m-mean?" Quirrell said nervously to Severus.
"You know perfectly well what I mean." Severus said and he looked to my direction and I stop my loud breathing, moving out of reach as he went to grab but luckily he doesn't, and he places his finger back under Quirrell's face,
"We'll have another chat soon...when you've had time to decide where your loyalties lie." Severus said and I nodded. I wanted to know which side he was on as well.
Suddenly though Filch arrived as I sensed him carrying the lamp as I cursed silently about that mistake. "Oh, Professors. I found this, in the Restricted Section. It's still hot. That means there's a student out of bed." Filch said to them and with that, they all darted off to find me.
I though went through a door to an empty classroom as I closed the door, but sensed an object that was a mirror within the room as took my cloak off and went over to it. Wondering what it was that I can sense.
As I looked within the mirror, I froze at who I sensed as Fawkes was on my shoulder. In the mirror I recognised the people just by sensing their presence as it was Mcgonagall, Dumbledore and Severus with some others I didn't recognise.
"Oh, great." I whispered as Fawkes rubbed against me in comfort as I looked to the top of the mirror and ran my hand across the writing. "I show not your face but your hearts desire." I muttered as I touched the glass, wondering why I see them, when suddenly Mcgonagall placed her hand on my shoulders and I shook my head as I felt my shoulder but sighed when nothing was there. But I knew I had to tell Draco about this.
That's when I went swiftly with my cloak, Fawkes screeching in protest as I went running to Draco's room, from my chambers and up the stairs of the Slytherin boy's dorms.
"Draco! You've really got to see this! Draco! You've got to see this!" I said and I pull back his covers. Draco wakes up groggily at hearing Worth. "Draco, Draco, come on. Get out of bed!" I said to him desperately in wanting him to see this.
"Why?" Draco said sleepily.
"There's something you've got to see. Now, come on!" I said and with that I got him under the cloak and we both went back to the mirror.
As we got there I took the cloak off and I run to the mirror.
"Come on. Come. Come look! You won't believe it!" I said with happiness as Fawkes came and swooped onto my shoulder.
"I only see us." Draco told her as he stood next to her in the mirror.
"Look in properly. Go on. Stand there. There." I said to him.
"That's me! Only, I'm head boy...and I'm holding the Quidditch cup! And bloody hell, I'm Quidditch Captain too! I look good. Worth, do you think this mirror shows the future?" Draco asked and I winced, I couldn't see anymore like my mirror self showed.
"How can it? I have no one who cares." I said with a sadness in my eyes. I had no family who cares about me so why should my dreams come true and with that we both left for the night but I was gonna come back, even if Draco tried to convince me to not.
....
The next evening, I went into the great hall, staring into the fire as I sat on the table with my feet on the bench as Draco came behind her. "Wanna okay chess?" Draco asked her.
"No." I said to him as my mind wondered.
"Wanna go visit Hagrid's?" Draco tried again trying to get her to brighten up.
"No." I said to him, thinking about the mirror again. I had to see it again. I just had too.
"Worth, I know what your thinking, but don't. There's something not right about that mirror." Draco said and I nodded, not really paying attention as he left me alone to think.
....
When night came, I sat in front of the mirror alone, wiping my tears as I looked within the mirror as I didn't sense Dumbledore behind me.
"Back again, Worthless?" Albus asked and I turned around and stands up. I'm in trouble. "I see that you, like so many before you, have discovered the delights of the Mirror of Erised. I trust by now you realize what it does. Let me give you a clue. The happiest man on earth would look into the mirror and see only himself, exactly as he is." Albus said coming in front of Worthless as she looked to him.
"It shows us what our heart really wants. In what makes us the most happiest. If the man is all ready the happiest in the world then it's going to show him due to he's all ready happy and his heart desire has all ready been accomplished." I said and Albus smiled.
"Indeed yes. It shows us nothing more or less than the deepest, most desperate desires of our hearts. Mr Malfoy, who had always felt like he had a lot to stand up to hasn't stood up great next to his parents...he stands next to them proudly the best son he can be. Now you, who have never known your families love, you see them standing beside you. But remember this, Worthless. This mirror gives us neither knowledge or truth. Men have wasted away in front of it, even gone mad. That is why tomorrow it will be moved to a new home, and I must ask you not to go looking for it again. It does not do to dwell on dreams, Worthless, and forget to live." Albus said and I looked into the mirror longingly, not to dwell on dreams, dreams are the only things I have to be happy.
Albus sighed and placed a hand on her shoulder. "Come, I'll escort you back to your chambers, Worthless." Albus said and I nodded as I grabbed my cloak as he led me back to my chambers.
"Headmaster." Salazar greeted as he looked to Worthless.
"I suggest you don't leave your chambers again at night, it's not always safe." Albus said and I nodded.
"Goodnight, Professor." I said softly walking in.
"Goodnight, Worthless." Albus said and he left as I sighed, as I felt sadness take over me as I went to my bed, curling up, hoping that sleep takes me into dreams instead of my usual nightmares.
.....
Over the winter break, I sighed as I walked the courtyard in the snow as I was bundled up as warm as I could get, as Fawkes was on my arm as I stopped, and Fawkes lifted off as he went soaring in the sky, free. Just wish that I could be so lucky as I went.
