Harley looked at the broken down amusement park that filled the small island. She could see the rusty Ferris Wheel, the tilting Screamer, and a dunk tank with mold covering the insides. She shifted her weight in her legs slightly, her trademark bat resting in her shoulder.
The island really wasn't much. Just a property owned by Gotham when the park closed down, and was gradually forgotten.
But Harley remembered it.
She heard something behind her. Her bat slowly slid off her shoulder as she turned around.
Poison Ivy was walking toward her, holding hands with three young girls and holding one in her free arm.
As soon as they saw Harley, the three girls on the ground broke into a run. "Mommy!" They greeted.
Harley smiled and bent down, letting them run into her arms. Two of them hugged her so hard, she almost fell back. It was a small pile of pasty white limbs as Harley kissed her girls, all of them giggling.
Ivy caught up with them just as the kids climbed off their mom. "They couldn't wait to see you." She said, smirking. Harley smiled as the two of them still hugged her waist. "So how are my beautiful girls?" She asked, rubbing their heads. "I got a loose tooth!" One of the younger one buzzed, jumping up and down with excitement. Harley gasped and playfully opened her mouth, spying and wiggling the loose tooth.
"Aunt Ivy said we're getting a new house. Is that true?" The second oldest, Arleen, asked, noticing the park behind them. Harley smiled, the other two noticing what was behind them too. Lucy, the oldest, smiled in wonder. "Mommy, are we gonna live here?" She asked.
Harley and Ivy looked at each other for a second, before both nodding their heads.
The three girls smiled brightly and walked into the park, looking at the ancient rides and concession stands. Harley looked at her other daughter, who was still sleeping like a rock in Ivy's arms. "There's a small apartment by the other side of the park where you and the girls can sleep. I'll send their stuff when I get back to the mainland." Ivy said. Harley nodded, her head now turned to look at her lively kids. Ivy could tell something was bothering her. "Harley, what's wrong? Do you think the kids will be happy here?"
Harley didn't turn her head when she answered. "Yeah. They got their mother's attitude. I can't wait to hear ten feet running around the island."
"Don't you mean eight-" Ivy stoped mid-sentence when Harley turned and looked at her, her mouth turned down slightly. Ivy didn't even have to guess.
"How far along are you?" She asked, worry in her voice. Harley looked down at her stomach. "Three months." She answered. "How-?" Ivy stuttered.
Harley left Joker three months ago. It was a weird time. Ivy had watched the kiddies for the past few years, while Harley checked in. The kids knew all about their mother, and Harley and Ivy never brought up their father.
And one night at around midnight, Ivy heard a knock on her door. Lucy, Arleen, and the twins sleeping in their beds down the hall, Ivy quietly pulled on a robe and went to the door.
Harley was standing on the doorstep. Her costume was ripped and torn, and bruises lined her neck and on her cheek. She refused to talk about what he did, just that she had finally had enough.
After spending the night at Ivy's, Harley finally left him. Ivy doubted that she would actually go through with it, but she did. She packed up everything she owned into two suitcases, and left. Her and Ivy kept in touch with letters, always wanting to know how her 'little babies' where doing. The kids also sent her letters.
Finally, she remembered this place. And Ivy brought the girls so they all live together as a family.
But how-?
Harley looked down, clearly in shame. Ivy nudged her gently with her elbow.
"The night I came to your house all beat up, me and J had a fight. It was one of the biggest, brutal, loudest ones we ever had. He finally realized that I had spent whole years away from him while I was pregnant, and demanded to know why. When I didn't say, he tried to strangle me. I tried fighting back, but that just made him more angry. Eventually he forced me into the bed and ripped my clothes off and..."
Harley stopped, tears starting to form in her eyes. Ivy stared at her friend. She rotated Jester (the girl in her arms) to her other arm and wrapped her free arm around Harley's shoulders, squeezing it softly. "What do I do? J has informants everywhere in the city. He'll find us eventually." She whispered, glad that her kids couldn't see her like this. Ivy looked at the park, where she could hear excited chatter from the girls. "Who knows you're here?" She asked. Harley wiped a tear with her hand. "Just you and Selina. But what if-"
She was cut off by Ivy putting a finger on her lips. "I swear on my life, Harley Quinn, that I won't let him find you or the girls. You five are the only bag of meats on this planet that I care about."
Harley smiled, pulling Ivy into a hug. They both embraced for a bit, Jester finally waking up.
"Mommy!"
Harley let go and let her daughter hug her tightly.
It was gonna be fine. She was finally away from that monster, she had four beautiful girls, and one on the way. She wasn't gonna go back to normal and get a job, but still. It was a nice change.
Jester tugged on her hand, and they both hurried into the park after the others.
