A PICTURE OF PIPER IS ON THE SIDE
(yes she's barbra palvin but like without make up you feel)
-
"Piper, please wear this one." Mrs. Adams begged and shoved a pink dress in her face. Luke would be picking her up in fifteen minutes and all she had to do was choose an outfit.
Piper was freaking out. She had only been to middle school birthday parties where they hit piñatas and opened presents. High school was totally different.
"No! It's a high school party, do you even know what would happen to me if I wore that?" Piper yelled, mostly because she was just really nervous about tonight.
Her mother huffed and walked out of her room, slamming the door.
Sometime after Piper had been released from treatment, her mum had bought her new clothes to fit into. They were mostly skirts and blouses but there were a couple of tee shirts and a pair of jeans.
"Piper, Lucas is here!" Mrs. Adams called. Luke had insisted that Lucas wasn't his real name but she didn't care.
Piper heard footsteps coming up the stairs and she cursed because she hadn't chosen an outfit yet. She was still in sweatpants and a tank top.
"Hey Piper." Luke smiled as he walked in the room. Piper had to tear her eyes away from him, he looked that good. His red and black flannel was strained due to his broad shoulders and his black skinny jeans clung to his long legs.
"Hey. Sorry I'm not ready yet," She sighed and turned back to her closet, "I don't know what people wear to these things."
Luke laughed and stood next to her, picking out an outfit himself. He chose a white crop top with highwaisted black shorts, something Piper wouldn't even consider wearing. She hated her body.
"Luke, no."
He sighed and turned back to her closet, picking out a red and black flannel, just like his. Piper felt better, but was still a little bit self conscious about the outfit.
"Please, Pipe?" He begged and she couldn't say no to him.
Piper groaned and snatched the clothing from his hands, stocking into the bathroom to change. When she was clothed, she stared at herself in the mirror. The dark bags under her eyes stood out so she covered them with concealer, something she often did. She didn't know what compelled her to do it, but she put a bit of mascara on. Piper was normally opposed to make up but tonight she wanted to make a good first impression.
She walked out of the restroom and smiled slightly at Luke, "Ready?"
He gaped and nodded slightly, "You have really nice legs," Piper raised her eyebrows and Luke gasped, "Sorry I-- let's go."
Luke and Piper said goodbye to Mrs. Adams and drove to the party. On the way there, they listened to music and talked about Luke's favorite bands (most of them Piper didn't know because of her time in treatment) but when they pulled up outside the house, Piper was beyond anxious.
You could hear the loud music from inside the house and teenagers were even partying outside. Red solo cups were scattered everywhere and Piper was surprised the cops hadn't shown up yet.
Luke gave her a smile that somehow made everything better and he helped her out of the car, taking her hand. Piper didn't question the small gesture because it had become slightly normal for them to touch each other.
When they walked into the foul smelling house, people's eyes landed on the pair. Piper's breath grew heavy and she found herself wondering why she had agreed to come in the first place.
Luke noticed her breath quicken and rubbed circles on her hand, which calmed her down a tad.
"Holy shit, is that Piper Adams?" A guy yelled and Piper recognized him from her eighth grade class. The boy laughed and then realized who was holding her hand, "Piper and Luke?"
Piper felt embarrassed as more and more people turned to look at them. Of course Luke was popular, why wouldn't he be?
Luke smiled and dropped Piper's hand. He gave the guy a side hug and said hello to a few people while Piper stood there.
And that's how the rest of the night went.
Piper felt like a total outcast. She didn't see the appeal in getting drunk off your ass just to have a good time. It was stupid.
Luke had left Piper in the kitchen about thirty minutes ago. He wasn't going to drink, Piper knew he wouldn't do that because he had to drive them home, but she still wanted to know where he was because she couldn't stand the awful looks kids were sending her way.
She stood up from the barstool and walked into the living room, where there were multiple social groups. She scanned the room until she found his tall hair peaking out over the rest.
Piper sighed in relief and walked over to where he was standing. He wasn't drunk, but he looked like he was in the wrong crowd. All of the guys around him looked high and/or drunk and Piper just wanted to run away. She couldn't stand this.
"Luke!" She called and he looked up at Piper and smiled, grabbing her hand and pulling her next to him.
"Whoa Hemmings, who's this?" One of the bums smirked and Piper scooted closer to Luke.
"This is Piper."
"Luke, can we please go?" Piper begged and looked up at him but he didn't look back at her.
"Not yet, Pipe."
"Don't call me that!" She yelled.
"Wow feisty." The same guy smirked and licked his lips.
Piper felt like she was going to cry, Luke of all people should've understood why she didn't want to be there, "You can stay here and get wasted, but I'm leaving." She choked and ran out of the party.
"Piper!" Luke called from behind her. He chased her out of the house and down the block a bit until he was finally close enough to grab her arm and turn her around, "Piper, why do you want to leave?"
"I want to leave because I don't know anyone, you ditched me, and I'm not having a good time! It may be fun for you but it isn't for me. The only reason I agreed to this was because I can't say no to you!" Piper yelled. She was crying now, mostly because she was just realizing how much she missed out on.
"You can't say no to me?" He scoffed like it was the most ridiculous thing he had ever heard, "What does that even mean?"
"I don't even know, Luke." Piper sighed, lowering her voice, "The real reason I wanted to leave is because it sort of hit me that I will never be normal. I've missed out on so much, Luke. I don't even have friends!"
"I'm your friend."
"That's different. I don't have any other friends." Piper buried her head in her hands, "Life could've been so different if I wasn't so dumb. It's all my fault, I made myself this way."
"I wouldn't have met you." Luke whispered and she looked up at him, just now realizing how close they were.
He cupped her face and brushed away the tears with his thumbs.
Piper wanted to kiss him. She wanted to feel his lips against hers and run her hands through his perfect hair but she knew if she did, it would ruin everything.
"Let's go, Pipe." Luke smiled and slung an arm over her shoulders, walking them to the car.
