Huey's POV

"Nigga, watch out!" Riley's voice yelled.

I spring up catching my breath, seeing Sandrica sitting on the couch, Face buried in my phone. Unwavering thoughts and emotions hit me as I sit up, instantly giving me a headache. "Woah..looks like somebody had a bad dream." She mumbles, giggling in my direction. I shake my head, rubbing my temple.

This is the first and last time I ever wanna sleep over their house again. I push the cover off of me, standing up from the blow up air matress they set up in the living room for me last night. "Huwy!" Their little four year old brother, Mekiel shouted, waddling towards me.

"Hey, lil man." I mumble moving past him. "Um, Huey?" I hear Sandrica call. As I turn around, Mekiel begins play fighting my leg. "Lil bitch!" He shouts. I pick him up. "Hey, watch yo mouth, lil man. That ain't cool, Ight?" I say to him. He looks at me, sadly nodding. "I'm sowwy." He mumbles.

"It's okay. Who's teaching him that?" I turn to Sandrica, asking. She shrugs, going back to my phone. "Some girl named Jazmine called last night by the way. I answered but then she hung up..she's the only person that called you."

I sigh, setting Mekiel down on the floor. He scurries off elsewhere. "Why'd you answer?" I ask, taking it from her.

She smacks her teeth. "It could've been important."

"I'm positive it wasn't."

"Whatever, Huey. You wanna spend the day with me and Kendrick?" She smiles.

I shake my head. "I need to go check on my lil brother and Grandad. Thanks for letting me stay the night."

"Big dawg!" Kendrick smiles, coming into the living room with his night clothes still on. He acts like somebody's uncle even though he's only nine. "Good Morning." I sigh.

"He's not really a morning person." I hear Sandrica whisper to him. I glare at her. "Don't tell him that. I'm jus getting used to everything."

She tilts her head. "What do you mean?"

I shake my head. "Nothing. But I gotta go."

"So soon," Grant walks into the kitchen, yawning. I never realized how full this house would be. "Morning." I nod my head. He shoots one back, opening the fridge. I put my shoes on then my jacket.

"When momma get home, tell her imma be out for three days." Grant says to Sandrica. She pouts, walking to where he is with her arms crossed. "But why? Don't leave us here for that long alone." She frowns.

"I gots to. I'll be back doe. There's 500 bucks in my Nike shoe box underneath my bed."

"But Granntt," she drags out, reminding me of Jazmine. "Mom is rarely home and you know daddy is in jail. That means I'm gonna have to basically spend my weekend babysitting and don't nobody feel like doin nat." She rolls her eyes. He smirks, pulling a hundred from his pocket. "Say no more." She mumbles, smirking and taking the money.

"Catch you later, lil cous." Grant nods. "Ight." I press my lips together then walk out of their front door, heading across the street to the house.

As I walk in the house, I close my eyes, quickly turning away. "Grandad! Seriously man?"

"Oh shut up. Where's your brother?" He questions, walking into the kitchen with nothing but that stupid robe on that doesn't cover him. I shrug my shoulders, walking towards the back, aggravated. "I thought he was here with you."

"That damn boy gets on my nerves. Well, when he comes home, tell his narrow ass I said to stay here and to not go anywhere else since he don't know how to come home. I'm bout to go cross the street to a friends house. I'll be back around late tonight."
