Jack's been practicing more and more with the boys, getting themselves ready to transision into the tour routine.

We leave tomorrow and I think I may have finally got the car working. I've pushed it out of my garage and now I'm sitting in the driver's seat ready to turn the key.

Who woulda thought that I'd be nervous to turn the key to my own car, almost affraid that the engine won't start up.

My hand rests on it for a minute before I gather the courage to turn it.

The car sputters a couple times before roaring to life. The sound is like music to my ears and I can't help but cheer.

I send Jack a text telling him I'm going out around the block, then lower the hardtop and pull out onto the road.

I'll admit that I was testy with the first drive around, not exactly following the speed limit or all the rules of the road. But I only did so when the road was clear and there was ample time for me to slow to a stop.

When I pull back up to my house, I have a new sense of accomplishment. I think that's what I seek most in life for myself and why I become so obssessed with things. I need to feel pride in myself and each time I'm beaten down, that pride is bashed and I need something new to restore it.

I drive into the boys' driveway and park the car. I don't want to interrupt their practice, so I wait somewhat patiently outside, messeging Jack to come out when they're done.

Usually he puts his phone on vibrate so that it doesn't bother anyone when they're singing.

I sit on the hood, legs crossed like a little kid. Passing the time by scrolling through my phone on the FBI's sites.

After this I might go get my Poleroid and snap a photo for my book.

The only thing this thing needs now, I think as I wait, is a new paint job. It's still an old sky blue, but I'm thinking a cherry-red or black-cherry, or maybe even a dark blue or purple.

"Hey!" Jack sprints out of the house, spotting me in the driveway. His eyes light up. "That's what we heard in the house! You got it working?!"

I nod, giggling proudly. "She works like a beast!"

Jack stops in front of me and presses his lips to mine. We he pulls back he touches the corner of my lips. "There's that smile I haven't seen for a while."

I wrap my arms around his waist and hug him, kissing the side of his neck. "I feel a hell of a lot better."

"Good." He sighs. "I was starting to worry a little bit."

I take in a deep breath, then lean back a little to study his gorgeous eyes. "Are you free for a little while? I was thinking we could go for a ride around town."

"You can have me for the rest of the day." He replies, kissing me again on the mouth, a hand resting on my waist. "Just let me go get a couple things first."

As he disapears inside, the rest of the guys trickle out to see what's going on.

"How'd you get that thing up here?" Zach questions, staring at the car. "There's no way..."

"You wanna bet?" I question cheekily, getting down off the hood. I bite my lip, slide the key in the ingniton, press the clutch and breaks, and turn. I spot Jack on his way back.

The guys all cheer as Jack's face lights up. It's one thing to hear about the car being fixed, it's another to see it.

"Dude, you gotta take us for a ride." Corbyn grins excitedly.
