His lips felt wrong against mine. They weren't as warm and inviting as Jake's. When his lips touched mine I froze. Even in my drunk state I froze with my eyes wide open and instantly began to sober up. I put my hands on his chest to push him away gently. He's still a good friend of mine and I didn't want to be harsh on him. I just need to let him down gently. I push against his chest but he pushes back against my lips holding me in place. I panic slightly and push harder. He still doesn't move so I panic more. I push again much harder and he is suddenly removed from me.

Jake grabs Drake by his collar looking furious. He glares at me for a second and his eyes look heartbroken. He turns his attention back to Drake and shoves him against the wall.

"What the fuck Drake!?" Drake doesn't say anything he just smirks at Jake. What the hell has gotten into him? He used to never act like this. Jake rears back his fist and sends it flying at Drakes face. I gasp when I hear a crack and Drake hits the floor rubbing his jaw. He doesn't attempt to get up. I look back up from Drake's body on the floor to Jake. He's already starring at me with a cold expression. He has never looked at me with this expression before.

"Jake please let me explain." I say taking a step towards him. He tears his head away from me and chuckles humorlessly shaking his head.

"I should have fucking known. I should have fucking known you were just stringing me along." He rubs his face harshly with his bloody hands.

"Jake no I swear it wasn..."

"Wasn't what Mari!?" He explodes making me flinch back.
"It wasn't what it looked like? It wasn't me making out with one of your best friends on my bed? What Mari what wasn't it!?" He shouts at me harshly.

"I.. it..." I'm at a loss for words. I take a deep breath and try to begin again.
"Just let me explain Jake. I swear it.."

"God damnit Mariana. You can't just bat those beautiful lashes at people and expect them to listen to you. You can't keep manipulating people!" Maybe it's the alcohol. Maybe it's his harsh words. Whatever it was it makes my eyes water.

"Jake please..." is all I can say, my voice cracking. He shakes his head and looks away from me.

"I honestly don't want to hear a single thing you have to say Mari. I can't trust you. I can't trust anything that comes out of your mouth. Did you even mean what you said last night?"

Flashback

Jake is laying beside me staring in my eyes stroking my face and hair. We had just had sex for the first time and it was incredible. He took such good care of me making sure I was comfortable and not hurting. My heart soared looking in his light brown chocolate eyes. He makes me feel something incredible.

"Jake."

"Hmm?" He closes his eyes slightly signaling he's tired.

"I think I'm falling for you." His eyes snap open looking at me. He stares at me so deeply I feel like I'm drowning. He leans closer covering his lips with mine sending my heart into a frenzy. Please catch me Jake.

Flashback over.

"What am I saying. Of course you didn't mean it." He says looking down towards the floor.

"Yes I did Jake! I meant every word!" I say desperate for him to believe me. He doesn't say anything for a good 40 seconds. The longest 40 seconds of my life.

He slowly lifts his head to meet my eyes. He has fresh tears shining through his eyes making my heart ache.

"I don't believe you." He says before walking out my bedroom door and taking a piece of my heart with him.

"Jake!"
"Jake!!" I shout after him but he doesn't turn back. No. No way. It can't just end like this. I move to go after Jake when I voice I completely forgot about stopped me in my tracks.

"I wouldn't bother sweetheart. He seems to have made up his mind." Drake says now in a seated position on the floor. I snap my head and send him the nastiest glare I could muster.

"Fuck you Drake." I seethe out before continuing my journey to Jake. I rush out of my room into the hallway and search for him. I look at everyone's face trying to locate him.

"Jake!" I rush down the stairs almost tripping in the process. I scan my livingroom for him. I finally spot the back of his head. My eyes light up in hope.

"Jake!" I yell out again. I weave and elbow my way through the crowded makeshift dancefloor. People yell at me for basically plowing everyone over but I couldn't care less at this point. I'm on a mission.

"Jake!" I yell out yet again even though he hasn't stopped any of the other times I've yelled out his name. I make it past the crowd and see him walking out the front door. I run to him still dodging random bodies. I bumb my shoulder hard with someone making me look up. Its fucking Rebecca. I scowl at her but I don't have time for her shit right now.

"Watch it bitch!" I roll my eyes and continue towards the door. I make it to the door and sling it open. The cold air nips my skin sending goosebumps over my body. I spot Jake walking towards his truck. He's almost there. I'm not going to make it to him in time. I run down the steps of my porch. I attempt one more time to shout his name.

"Jake!" I all but scream out into the night. He freezes with his hand on the handle of his truck. My heart skips a beat. He looks up and makes eye contact with me sending a sliver of hope through my heart. Desperation and hope shine through my eyes. His eyes look torn and indecisive. He takes a deep breath and closes them before quickly getting in the cherry red pickup truck and driving away leaving me heartbroken in my front lawn, on my birthday.
