The Demon World was no different from Earth, it just resided in a different dimension. We had a blue sky, a few suns and too many moons. The weather and climate is rather similar – we have four seasons as well but we named it differently. However, we were very different from the humans. Demons are intelligent creatures, with strength and powers that far exceed one. Our life expectancy is triple that of a human.

The Demon World is ruled by the Royal Family. However in recent years, the King had grown old and wanted to bestow one of his many children to become the next king. This is what happens when you have too many children and they were all eager to get the throne – sibling squabbles erupted which made the King die before he could announce the successor.

With no King, the world was thrown into turmoil and that was when the most powerful demon decided that it was his time to take over – even though he was not of royal blood. He killed everyone who dared to stand in his way and sat himself on the throne when there was no one left to oppose him.

This happened just when I was incarcerated in the Human World.

I am not a stranger to the dark because I was born in it – I revel in it. Appearing in my home world after years away renewed me to my fullest strength – first thing was to change out of the clothes I was given to my usual attire I wore. Gone were the pasty and scratchy cloth, as they were replaced by the finest material that one of royalty ought to wear.

Letting out a satisfied breath, I ran my hands through my hair – feeling my power surging through my skin and opened my eyes – finally renewed.

I'm back.

Time to save the young priest.

Cracking my neck and loosening the tight muscles in my shoulders, I spread my black  wings and took off for the castle where I knew the priest was being held captive. I was sure there was an army waiting for me – including the demon who've captured the human. Knowing that it was a trap, I cannot ignore the threat because a human in a demon world is unheard of and dangerous – any other demon who'd caught wind of it would mean disastrous to all.

I landed at the front doors of the castle nimbly – retracted my wings and opened the heavy oak doors to find the servants all lined up by the lobby waiting to greet me as I entered. Where was the army? The scene reminded me of the older days – before the fighting happened – and I walked past them, ordering the servant to call for the butler.

The butler appeared as stoic as ever. "You called for me, Your Highness?" he asked.

"Is the Master of this castle home?" I asked.

"Yes, he is."

"Tell him I am here," I replied and walked away, taking a left down the corridor.

"Where are you going, Your Highness?"

I looked over my shoulder. "I've come to pick up my pet," I said and turned to face forwards once more. I did not dare to say "human" as I do not know how they would react if I did say that aloud. I could hear them murmuring behind me, as I was sure they were curious as to whom I was picking up after years of hiding.

"I'm glad to see you're back, Your Highness."

Raising a hand as an answer, I made my way down and opened a door which led down to the basement. The basement was dingy and dark – lit by a few candles and I made my way down the spiralling staircase to note the numerous cells suckered into the rock wall. All of them were empty, except for one by the corner.

The young priest-in-making was sitting on a slab of rock meditating when I arrived. It was a peculiar scene for me. Was he waiting for someone to appear and rescue him? Does he know that he will be saved?
