I knew it was a weak attempt but I had to do it. I had little choice. I felt that I still have a small chance of hiding my presence – the feverish attempt to scribble more – this time was aimed at the glass panels.
The armed guards have reported it to their boss – the Warden and he tried to bring in a few psychiatrists to ask what was happening to me to make me feel such intense fear but I barely spoke a word to any of them.
It has been twenty five days since the last visit and I did not wish to leave this place. Once the walls, floor and ceiling were full, I finally stopped and remained where I was – breathing heavily. I stared at the scribbling, renewing those that had faded over the years and I wondered if those were enough as protection.
I hoped the young priest was okay.
He has not returned for a visit.
I wondered if he was able to save the child from her doom.
Worried, I began to pace back and forth. I refused food and drink, even though they came according to schedule. That seemed to worry the people working as they decided to force-feed me – by injecting me with fluids to keep me going. Thanks to their meddling, I fell into a lull and I find myself slowly relaxing because nothing happened after that.
With the extra layers of protection around me, I began to resume the things I had put a stop earlier. I wonder if it's because of my years amongst the humans that I fell into a false sense of security.
Another visitor came just two days later, even through the protection layers.
It was the wee hours of the morning. I was supposed to be asleep but I could not, so I was reading a book. Suddenly, the doors hissed open and I looked up to see one of the armed guards entering the place. I knew immediately that something was wrong. The guards do not come in at this hour, he was alone and his gun was not drawn – his eyes has turned white.
"You have allowed a human to be taken," he spoke in a monotonous voice. "The lilac one."
"State your name."
"It is I – Arzel!" he announced. "I have come to bring you home."
"What the fuck are you doing here?" I demanded. "Leave!"
"Home is going to be in uproar if you don't come back now!"
I grew grim. "Release the human whom you've possessed," I ordered. "You are going to kill him."
"I cannot maintain my presence in this world if I do not have a human host," he explained. "He is the strongest amongst the other weaklings."
I sighed.
"It is time for you to return – the throne is at stake," he said. "The lilac one will be used as a hostage."
"I cannot leave," I said flatly.
"This prison is nothing to you! Why do you insist in staying in this human world?"
I stayed quiet as I mulled things over. The young priest will die if he stays too long in that world and it was a sad way to die for a young man like him. The thought of it weighs heavy upon my shoulders and even though I knew what I had to do, the thought of leaving the world to chaos made me hesitant.
This was certainly not the way I had imagined if I were to leave this place – if at all – and I was not pleased at how abrupt things are heading. The opposition was clutching at straws – kidnapping a human was unheard of and the appearance of Arzel in front of me meant that the world is going to shit despite my attempts in making sure it doesn't.
"Your sacrifice were in vain," he spoke, reading my mind.
"Shut up."
"Let's not waste more time," he said.
I sighed and got up, cracking my neck before I stepped towards the glass wall. Within a second, the glass shattered like fireworks and I stepped out of the cell barefooted which tripped the alarm. Loud noise and red flashes of light illuminated the room – signalling to the armed guards behind that I was out of my cell.
The doors hissed open and in came the drowsy group with their guns drawn and aimed at me.
"Please don't," I said as I raised my arms up.
They did not heed a word and began to fire. Arzel – with the human body – threw himself in front of the line of fire and fell to the ground dead. Seeing the life leaving his body made me furious, and with a wave of my hand, I knocked out the rest of the guards. Silencing the alarm, I forced the doors open and walked down the corridor.
At the end of it stood the elevator and I used it to go up to the main lobby which I knew where the rest of the armed guards would be waiting. As soon as the doors hissed open, they started firing and I raised a hand to stop the time – stopping the bullets in mid-air before swiping the humans aside so I could walk onward.
Taking the stairs down, I noticed the Warden office which overlooked the cliff and further ahead was the control centre where there were monitors set up – showing maps of the entire place including the map of the ocean. Walking past all those, I let myself out of the front door and ended up walking to the helipad.
"This is a good spot."
Taking a deep breath, I began to concentrate. A circle began to appear on the floor around me – etching itself into the ground and an inscription began to appear within the circumference. Soon, the circle began to light up as the spell began to form. It was a spell of transportation, from here on Earth and to Hell.
"Wait!"
The Warden and a few guards had burst out from the door and they were making their way towards me. They must have recovered from the attack. Turning to see them running up the stairs, I had never seen a human so desperate before. However, before they could come any closer, the spell initiated and I disappeared.
"Wait!"
