When she opened the door she saw what looked like a rat that was scratching the microphone that is used for the P.A. system that was at one time working and was installed in this house. Alexa thought that it broke, but apparently it sometimes worked and sometimes didn't. Also, the rat was sitting on her dad's best flashlights that he would get when the lights stopped working. After this major disappointment, she closed the door, and attempted to leave of the basement. At the time that the door closed, she didn't think that she would find a rat where her parents should've been. She started pulling and tugging at the door with all of her might. Then she wondered if this door was a push door and so she tried pushing. This was also useless. Eventually she gave up and started to ponder if there was another exit somewhere. In a few minutes she found a window, and although it was small, she was sure that she could fit through it since she often could crawl and fit into small spaces. She broke the window and decided to give it a try and, much to her surprise, she was able to fit through it, but the only problem was that she was now at the back of her house, in her pajamas, with no way into her house other than that window. She realized that she was going to be stuck outside for a long time.
Alexa remembered that in most movies, the main character's family would keep a spare pair of keys under their doormat. Since she was so desperate, she went to check under the doormat; the only problem was that her parents didn't own a doormat, since they expected their guest to come into their home with clean shoes. At this point she was out of ideas on what to do. She had no contact with her parents or the outside world. Then it hit her; since she had just become friends with Taylor, she would think that he would help her out at a time like this.

When she arrived at Taylor's house (which took quite some time, considering she was in slippers), she rang the doorbell;of course, no one would let her in since it was so late in the night. Her next idea would be to check the windows or throw a rock at his house. After a few moments, Alexa started having second thoughts about coming to Taylor's house in the first place. What if his parents thought that she was an intruder or something weird like that? What if she would get into trouble for either breaking Taylor's window or waking him up late in the night? What if Taylor wasn't even home? What if she was all alone in this world? That was when she stopped because these questions were starting to go too far. Alexa decided to ignore these second thoughts and decided to just check if the door was locked. The door was actually, to her surprise, not locked.
She entered the house and immediately felt like a burglar and even though nobody was home, she snuck around. Eventually she arrived at Taylor's room which last she remembered wasn't decorated with posters and all sorts of different signs. She thought that it was just her poor eyesight at the moment that made her see imaginary signs. Alexa entered the room and saw the PS4 on which they were playing on not too long ago. She saw some kind of note that was addressed to A.J.S. It took a few moments for that to sink in and when it did, she realized that it was addressed to her. "A" was for Alexa, "J" was for her middle name, Jules, and "S" was for Sper. She started reading the note and suddenly couldn't read anymore.
