Later that night, Alexa returned home with a splitting headache as well as her newly written history paper! She was so happy that she was going to get a good grade in history. One of her new goals was to make sure that she doesn't lose her main source for good grades (A.K.A. Taylor) and that Aura doesn't ruin this and talk some sense into him. She also didn't want Bella's secret doesn't get spilled. Before falling asleep, she kept on thinking about what would happen if her history teacher, Professor Hans, doesn't suspect that she wasn't actually writing that paper.
She went to bed with that note and woke up in the middle of the night with a start because she heard a strange scratching noise that was coming from her door. She was going to open the door, but being someone who is not a big fan of the dark, she realized that she could grab something that may help her protect herself. Although she knew nothing should be there, the thought of having something to protect herself with comforted her. Since she used to play tennis, she grabbed her tennis racket and hoped that this would work as a weapon even though it was a racked for a seven year old. She opened the door and anticipated to see some kind of scary monster from her imagination, but to her surprise she saw nothing and the scratching noise disappeared. She started to think that she was going crazy from all of those video games that she forced herself to play. She put down the racket and went to bed. She woke up again to the same noise except it was louder than last time. She tried to ignore this noise, but it just seemed to get louder. She finally got up and grabbed the racket and opened her door, this time anticipating to see nothing. She was now heading down the very long hallway that seemed a little longer than usual and then she turned left and headed towards her parent's room.
She politely knocked on their bedroom doors. Not a single sound was heard. She knocked again and this time she heard something, but it wasn't coming from her parent's room, but rather it was coming from downstairs. So she turned right and started heading down the peculiar hallway. With each step she felt like she was being followed by someone or something, so with each step she walked faster, and faster until she passed her room. After this point she sprinted down the stairs because she felt like something was definitely wrong. She ran to the downstairs guest room and knocked on the doors, again no answer. She ran to the downstairs bathroom and the same result for this room as well as the kitchen. The last place that she checked was the basement, even though she knew that it was wrong, she was too desperate for a safe haven (her parents) to care. She didn't even knock on the door this time but instead opened it. The door was so heavy, she had to use at least her whole body weight (if not more). Alexa wasn't allowed to be in the basement -- and she had found that out the hard way -- so pretty much everything that she was seeing right now was new. She searched behind every corner just to be disappointed search after search after search. Alexa found a box and decided to put it in the door so that it wouldn't close.
She eventually found another door. Her heart started pounding because there was light coming from under that door. She started to search for a mirror immediately because her parents hated it when she wasn't looking tidy even if she was supposed to be sleeping. In a few minutes she was able to find one, as well as an oddly shaped pair of keys. She decided to leave them because she wouldn't want her parents thinking that she was going to open something and then steal from it. She took a deep breath and then she was about to open the door when a the box that she put to prevent the door from closing broke because of the door's weight and made the door slam shut. She groaned and decided to tell her parents about it when she would finally get to see them!
