Chapter 8

Connors P.O.V

That was a good sleep. I looked round Brad was awake as was James and Tris had just woken up. "Where's Zoe?" I asked them. Brad chucked me a piece of paper. The note said she'd taken Jesse on a walk. As I got up I heard a scrabbling noise at the front door. I opened it. Jesse shot through the door down the hallway. I was confused. I looked down the road expecting to see Zoe but she wasn't there. I shut the door. I walked into the living room. "Weird Zoe isn't with Jesse." I said. Jesse was whining and scrabbling at Brads leg. "What is it Jess?" Jesse ran to the door. We all put our shoes on and followed her. Brad put her lead on and we followed her. She led us through the streets. We went round a corner and saw Zoe lying on the pavement motionless. James rushed to her side. I was shocked so was Brad who also rushed to her side. "Zoe, Zoe can your hear us." Brad and James asked. She said nothing."I'm calling an ambulance." Tris said. I knelt by her next to James. Tears were running down his face. "She has to be ok she has to be." He cried. I put my arm round him reassuringly. I was holding back the floods of tears that were behind my eyes. I was trying to be strong for James he was my best friend and I needed to support him. I've only Zoe for a couple of days but I do care a lot about her. She's an amazing friend. "Ambulance is on its way." Tris said. 10 minutes later it arrived. They loaded Zoe into the ambulance. James chambered into the ambulance. "Con come too." James said to me. I followed him into the ambulance. "We'll meet you guys there." Brad said as the paramedics closed the ambulance door. I sat next to James he was crying I put my arm round him. He rested his head on my shoulder sobbing. I know it sounds stupid but she felt like a special friend kind of part of my family. To see her lying there made me feel such a close friendship between us. I knew she'd want me to help James. "She'll pull through James you know why she's a strong person and you know that." I whispered. He made a small smile through the tears. "Thanks Con." He replied. We arrived at the hospital and saw Brad and Tris. They ran over. We sat in the waiting room. I watched the clock hands spin round and round as time passed. The doors opened we all looked round. "The good news is we've got her stable she's still unconscious but we're hoping to bring her round later, she does has broken her right arm, wrist and leg where she fell on the ground. All other injuries weren't too serious she's just been badly bruised and slightly scrapped." They doctor told us. I watched James sigh a little in relief. Brad hugged James. "Two of you can go and see her now. " the doctor added before walking down the corridor. "James and Connor should go." Tristan told us. Brad agreed. I walked down the corridor with James. James opened the door to the room and went to her bedside. I followed closely behind. I could see the tears building in his eyes. I put my arm round him and pulled him into my shoulder. He cried into me and I didn't stop hugging him. He turned back round and placed his hand on Zoe's stroking it gently. I sat in the chair behind James. He lent down and gently kissed the top of her hand. My heart felt pained seeing Zo helpless machines beside her. "Connor you and the boys can go back to Brads I'm going to sleep here tonight." James said to me. "I'm going nowhere James there's two chairs one for me to sleep in and one for you." I said. James smiled. "Thanks Con you really are an amazing friend don't know if I could get through it without you." He replied. I pulled him into a bro hug. I walked out the room to go and tell Brad and Tris they should go and get some sleep. "How is she?" They both asked. "Still unconscious, but I think she's ok." I told them. "James and I are going to sleep here because there are two chairs and I'm not going to leave James by himself." "He said you two should go back to Brads and get some sleep, we'll let you know on any updates." I added. They nodded like they understood. "We'll go back to mine but call us if you need us ok." Brad said as he got to his feet. Tris followed. "Will do" I said reassuringly. They walked down the corridor and went out the door. I went back to the room. James was still sat by the side of her bed. I could see his eyes were wet with tears. "Brad and Tris are heading home." I told him quietly. I pulled up a chair next to him. He wiped away the tears in his eyes. "Ok thank you for explaining everything to them." He replied. "It's fine they understood, obviously they would they're your best friends." He tried to smile. He stayed at Zoes bedside until midnight. They he decided he should sleep and I thought I should too. I got as comfy as I could in the chair before slowly drifting off to sleep.
