Fraternal twins Karris and Gabe Villanueva couldn't be any more different. While they share the same dark hair and deep eyes, their personalities belonged on two opposite sides of the spectrum. Hockey captain, Mr. Popularity, and the kid whom everyone wished they were, Gabe walked down the halls at Willowridge High like royalty-- and his championship winning team were there to relish in the attention too.
Karris on the other hand was smart. Really smart. Her intellect could propel her to places farther than what the mind could imagine. Brampcrest Math and Sciences Academy were known for two things: their freakishly intelligent students who were all gunning to be the next Steve Jobs, and their prodigiously excellent hockey team. Muscular boys with the aptitude of calculating force, speed, and velocity needed to make the perfect shot would make the Brampcrest Titans state champions.
Almost.
The rivalry between the two Arden Heights schools could be mistaken for World War Three and both teams were bloodthirsty for the championship title. Longer practices, stricter diets, and even yoga, Brampcrest and Willowridge would do anything to win.
Even murder.
In the wake of her star brother's death, Karris transfers schools. Out of the stressful academia of Brampcrest and into the laid back public halls of Willowridge, Karris hopes to finish her last year of high school as smoothly as possible. That is until the hockey team decides to get in the way. After wowing the coach and team with her ability to perform the hardest move in ice hockey, Karris' 100mph slapshot could be the missing element the Willowridge Thunderbirds needed to win-- if it weren't for the fact that she is a female.
Cursed with a gender-sensitive rule book, Karris is instead given a coaching apprentice position, and while the entire team is meant to treat the 5-foot-nothing nerd as any other coach, the boys on the team do nothing but make her job 10 times harder-- especially newly appointed team captain, number 15, Ashton Irwin. The best player on the team, a dimpled smile, and a charming personality, Ashton always gets his way. And the one time he doesn't, he has to take orders from the girl behind the textbook.
Violent and lacking accuracy, a slapshot is a risky move. But if done correctly, could ignite a game. A lot like the ideas of love and romance, a slapshot must be handled with care and can't happen under pressured circumstances. Can Ashton move past his hard headed demeanor and learn to open his mind to the idea that the girl with the thick framed glasses, and quirky love for math be the missing link to a championship winning streak? But even deeper, be the missing piece to Ashton's jigsaw heart?
In a game of hockey, a slapshot can be the deciding maneuver between a win or lose. For Ashton and Karris, a little luck, faith, and the right moment can create a perfect, winning slapshot to the heart.
