Lyla Baker was sitting in her kitchen eating dry Cap'n Crunch as she fed her two 2 year old daughters some oatmeal. She moved to Brooklyn NY just a few days ago and she was still unpacking and trying to figure out where everything was. She stopped when she saw that she was getting a phone call.
"Hello." she said
"Hi is this Lyla Baker?' a woman on the other end of the phone said
"Yes it is. May I ask whose calling?' she said
"This is Melinda May I'm the superintendent for the Brooklyn School System. I was wondering if you would like to come in for a interview?' Melinda said
"Yes I would love to. Which high school?' she said
"Right it is for the Brooklyn High school. " Melinda said
"Okay thank you. What time do I need to be at the school?' she said as she found her planner.
"Tomorrow morning at 10AM." Melinda said
Lyla wrote it down in her planner and said "Okay thank you so much Ms May I look forward to meeting with you tomorrow."
"You are welcome Ms Baker look forward to meeting you too." Melinda said
Lyla hung up and smiled then she heard "Mama.."
"Shoot.." Lyla said
The only person she knew in Brooklyn was her grandmother that was the only reason why her mother felt okay with her daughter moving to Brooklyn all by herself was cause her grandma lived in Brooklyn. She scrolled through her contacts and called her grandma.
"Hey grandma" Lyla said
"Hey honey is everything okay?' Lucille said
"Yeah. I just um do you think you could watch the girls for a little awhile in the morning I have a job interview in the morning and I really need this job." Lyla said
"Of course honey I don't mind to watch her that's what I'm here for." Lucilla said
"Great." Lyla said
She talked to her grandma for another 30 minutes while she fed Madelyn and Madison the rest of their oatmeal and ate her cereal. That night she found the grocery store close to her apartment and got what she needed and then went back to the apartment. She gave the girls a bath and read them a bedtime story and let them sleep next to her. That had become a habit after ex fiancée left in the middle of the night when the girls were 4 months
She set an alarm and went to sleep herself. The next morning she got herself up and took a shower before the girls woke up. She curled her long blonde hair did her make up and got dressed and got the girls dressed and ready to go as well. She got to her grandma's house and Lucille said "Wait baby."
She went upstairs and came back down with a long gold necklace and said "Here baby.."
"Thanks grandma." She said
