Zoey’s POV
Today was the premiere of Taxi in LA. I met Jimmy out here since he was doing Fever Pitch things. We were sharing a hotel room, but barely seeing each other. Which is why he didn’t know I was leaving for Paris tonight. I haven’t seen him since I’ve been to LA and that’s pretty frustrating considering he asked me to fly out 4 days before the premiere. I was worried he was spending the night at random places, seeing different women, and I wasn’t going to have that. After a pregnancy scare, almost proposals, and different bullshit, I just wanted to make sure Jimmy was with me for the long haul. And after 4 years, it didn’t feel like it.
Our stylists arrived to our room with my dress and Jimmy’s suit. They made me up and styled me. I was in the mirror putting on finishing touches when Jimmy rushed in the room out of breath.
“Zo! You’re here? I forgot I invited you, I’m so sorry.” He sat in a makeup chair getting his hair all done.
“Yeah, I was here for 4 days while you were out in Hollywood partying it up without your girlfriend. And probably with other chicks. No big deal.”
I heard him sigh and looked at him through my mirror, applying lip liner.
“Jimmy, where the hell were you?”
“I stayed at Drew’s place. We were going over lines and stuff, it wasn’t that big a deal.”
“Jimmy, it is so a big fucking deal. And what’s with you and Drew lately? I like her, but she should have the decency to know I was in town and didn’t let you come back to the hotel. Are you hiding something from me?” I was now turned around facing Jimmy’s back while the make-up guy did his work to Jimmy.
“Zoey, why are you acting like this? Me and Drew are just friends.”
“And Parker Posey is just your friend too? I read the tabloids. Why were you with her last week in New York? You were supposed to be here in LA.” I threw the magazine in his lap, putting my hands on my hips in front of him.
“Zoey! Why do you read this crap?” He threw it back at me. “I was with Parker for her birthday, we were doing a quick commercial then I had to jet back here. Come on.”
“Fuck her birthday! You were busy filming Taxi on my birthday but you can spend time with fucking Parker Posey?!” I pointed my finger in his face. “Parker fucking Posey! It’s her isn’t it? You’re cheating on me with that washed-up, indie film star bitch?”
He stood up and we were eye to eye. “Zoey, calm the hell down damn it! I’m not cheating on you! I’m sorry if it seemed like I wasn’t around like that? But can we finish this argument at a later time and date? My major motion picture debut is in less than 30 minutes and I have to be on that red carpet with you on my arm. I don’t have time for this.”
“Well what the fuck do you have time for? This? But if I was dead in a hospital, you call and say ‘sorry I’m busy filming’.”
He shook his head and walked out of the hotel room. I caught my breath from the heavy talking and trailed a few feet behind him.
At the premiere, we had to put on a happy face and pretend. It was killing me. All the interviews and cameras, catching us smile and say happy things. As we inched to the door holding hands, I began crying.
“Zoey, stop crying.” Jimmy brought his face to mine and squeezed my hand. I couldn’t manage to utter one word. My throat was choked up and I used my thumb to wipe the tears close to my eyeline so my eyeliner wouldn’t get messed up. We went inside and went into a different theater where Taxi wasn’t playing.
