🌞🌛Summer🌜🌞

She was the sun, bright and shining and full of warmth and love.

And if she was the sun, then he was the moon, he decided. Everyone loved the sun, but very few people would choose the moon over the sun. After all, it didn't warm them, it didn't bring love.

He could only hope that the sun of his world was one of the few that actually liked the moon. He didn't think that he could handle this much more. He had to know.

"Hey, do you... Um... Mind if I sit here with you?" he questions, looking over to her small form.

God, could he make it any more obvious?

"Yeah, sure, what's up, Soul?" she returns, shifting over slightly so he could get the magical view that she was experiencing too.

The sky was a beautiful golden color, so unlike anything she had ever seen. It mixed yellow and orange and red in a way that seemed celestial. Well... In a way it was. The sun was just over the horizon, about to disappear for the night.

"Just felt like coming out here to talk. You know, figured I'd grace you with my presence," he jokes, grinning at her as she took a sip of her tea.

"Oh, very funny," she agrees dryly. "Tea?"

"Nah, I'm okay," he says and shakes his head, though when she glanced up at him with those bright green eyes, those long eyelashes... He actually felt bad about turning down her offer.

"You've been kinda different lately. Is everything okay?" she asks, reaching up to touch his cheek with her fingertips.

Oh Maka... If only you knew... If only you weren't so bright when he was so dark...

"I'm... I'm okay," he says with a halfhearted nod. "Just... It's been rough these past few months."

"Why? Is something bothering you? How come you haven't told me?" she demands, turning from the golden sky to look into his crimson orbs.

He frowns and looks away. He couldn't lie to those eyes, not when they had saved him so many years ago.

"I know I don't have anything to give you... But... I'm in love with you Maka. I have been for a long time now. And... I really wish that we could be something more than just a weapon and meister pair," he explains, his cheeks flooding with pink.

"As long as you don't break my little heart and leave me alone for the rest of the summer," she says with a shrug. "Then I don't see why not."

He blinks and looks back at her, half expecting a silly grin to be plastered on his face. Was this a joke to her? No, her expression said otherwise.

"You're... You're serious?" he asks, his mouth falling open in shock.

"Yeah. We could try it," she says, resting her hand on his before looking out to the sky, though the sun was gone now.

The sun had given itself to night, had let the moon be free and happy.

He leaned over and pressed a kiss to her cheek before looking out to the sky also.

All was golden when the day met the night.
