Year one began and ended in a very hectic and tiresome manner. Total strangers came together and established friendship. So many tears were shed but a lot more laughter. Bulky and endless notes to copy but we pulled through. It was an awesome experience filled with joy and sadness.
One phase had ended and a new one was staring at us in the face. We had no other choice but to stick out our heads and see what the new phase had in store for us.
Everyone was so excited to finally go through the first year at Wuse Heights which some barely made. We could finally claim a little seniority now because we had juniors. The worst had passed and our sky was blue again or so we thought. Year two came with its own struggles but we had a lot more fun than the previous year.
The excitement gradually began to ware out when the real business began, the whole first term was tight, hardly got free periods sometimes our break time got used for lessons. Every Friday morning after assembly was race time to meet up with government class and most times the lesson would have gone 10 or 15 minutes before some got there, it usually spelled trouble. Despite the rush it was still my best time of the day because I loved and still love the subject. Like other Fridays everyone ran to class but little did we know there was a surprise waiting for us, an impromptu test.
Some people had already died inside before taking their seats for the test but we had no choice than to write. The test was written with lots of complains and more than half the class were unsure of the answers they gave including the kings and queens of the subject. The class got dismissed with even more complains and murmurings. After a week the results were ready and only 5 people aced the test 10/10, the rest had to settle for 8 and below.
Remember our noisy nature in year one? Well you probably thought we would grow up and begin to act all matured, well sorry to disappoint you cause the reverse was the case in fact we added like ten stars to our noise badge. Imagine a situation where students noise causes a little vibration of a school block. We were that "good" on the "job". Teachers complained everyday, but no way.
At a point we had to kneel down through every literature class but even at that the noise never stopped, we were just very dedicated noise makers yet very intelligent.
Being in year two not only made us better at noise making (haha) it also brought out the best in us. I soon understood that some of us used the first year to lay out our various academic strategies. The competition became tougher, people who had acted like they knew nothing began showing the stuff they were made of.
They all suddenly started asking some very intelligent questions and when occasion demands give equally intelligent answers. The best student position was no longer left for a few to fight over because more people had joined the race and this made the classes very interesting and interactive, a great way of learning. The joy in all these was that it happened in every class of year two and at no point was anyone left behind.
After going through one full year together the bonds that had been established began to get stronger and tighter. We knew and understood each other so much better. Some relationships ended whereas others began because people's true identities were being unfolded.
OK now to more fun and interesting things.
Second and third term were very crazy terms. We usually had free periods on Monday and Friday, we had wasted a few of it playing around and doing our "job"(I'm sure you know the job) then we realized that we could capitalize on those weekly opportunities and do something good with them. After lots of discussions, agreements and disagreements we finally came to a compromise and decided to do a talent show. Our first show was a music contest tagged the art class Idol, different people sang with so many tunes filling the air. Some were awesome, some just good, some were bad and a few others were terrible. We cheered loudly for those who had tickled our sense of hearing with melodious tunes and laughed at those who had resolved to damage our eardrums with their cracked and rough voices.
It was a fun filled day, but after all the singing no winner was announced, it was just for the fun of it. The next edition we held attracted our mates from the other classes and they had no regrets. We also exhibited our acting skills in one of the editions and it was the bomb, it was hilarious, fun filled and so interesting to watch especially when one of our mates (female) played the role of a drunken father making demands from both mother and children. She played the role so well that she even over did it and got us second guessing her sex (haha), she was just very enthusiastic about the role.
The excitement continued as the growing inter student and inter class competition / academic rivalry became an inter school affair. It was then that we realized and began to harness our competitive spirits. Seeing that the then seniors were occupied with preparations for their exams the onus fell on us to represent the school whenever the need arose. We braced ourselves, took the challenges that came our way and hardly disappointed the school.
Our competitive era not only broaden our knowledge it also gave us several opportunities to meet very high profile individuals and also be to places we may have never been to while in high school. It was an awesome year for most of us, lots of memories were made and lots of people met.
Before I let out all the juicy stuffs lets know what our friends have for usMeet them>>year two
