Needless to say I didn't sleep a wink. Tossing and turning made the night feel like it went on forever. A lot of thoughts kept me up, "Did I really see that?" "Was what he said true?" "Is he coming back for me?"

The repetition of these thoughts made me sound crazy even to myself. As I watched the sun rise from my window I decided that I won't let myself be pulled into this craziness.

With that thought I opened my laptop and booked an appointment with the nearest therapist.

"I was obviously sleep deprived that's why I thought I saw those things." I explain to my therapist. She eagerly writes down notes like she has been for the past hour as I tell her my thoughts on what happened last night.
Giving her notes one last thoughtful glance, she puts them aside and focuses her attention on me. Her eyebrows are furrowed and she looks at me with understanding.

"Yes that seems like what has triggered these events for you Camila," she says, holding her chin. "It seems like what happened during your fishing trip has caused you some long lasting trauma, which your now seeing as illusions."

"It may seem like you went to that persons house, but you could have simply fallen asleep and woken up at night, thinking that man was in your room."

It's my turn to nod in understanding. "That does make a lot of sense. Now that I think about it, there was no trace of me going to his house in the first place." I add on.

"That's right. I see this in a lot of my clients. It's all just an illusion that their mind makes them believe."

I sit up from my lying position and nod. I check my watch and see that I have been her longer than I expected.

"Alright Camila. I that's enough for today. Why don't we meet around the same time tomorrow?" She suggests taking out her schedule to slot me in as I agree.

"We have been making a lot of progress and I hope we can keep up this momentum." She says finishing the entry.

I get up to leave picking up my things in the process.

"Thank you so much for you time Doctor." I say shaking her hand.

"Please Camila. Just call me Julie." She says with a smile.

With a final wave, and a thank you to the receptionist,  I'm back in my car driving home.

I glad I made the decision to come here. Turns out it was just all in my head. Talking about it to someone made me realise just how ludicrous the whole situation was. I mean a Megalodon?!? Really?!?!

Finally home, I put my things on the bed, grab a spare change of clothes and hop into the shower.

Fifteen minutes later I enter my bedroom feeling like a new woman. My body and mind are both clean and I could really use a nap.

Tucking myself in, I make sure the balcony door is closed before closing my eyes and attempting to fall asleep.

Yes attempting, cause I don't really get to the sleeping part.

A loud crash sounds from down stairs and I jolt up in bed. I know for a fact that there is no one home except me. My whole family left this morning to go visit family, and won't be back until tomorrow.

Slowly taking the covers off me, I pick up my phone and tip toe to the door. I press my ear to the wood, hoping to hear some sort of sound, but all I get is silence. It's quiet, too quiet.

I remember one time thieves broke into the house late at night. I was the only one awake and I heard them break the window to get in. Ever since then my Dad makes me sleep with a bat, just in case something like that happens again.

I lock my door and pick up the bat. With the other hand I unlock my phone to call the police. Just as I do, I hear heavy footsteps walking up the stairs.

In a rush to call the police, I clumsy drop the phone and bat. The sound is magnified in the quiet house and I freeze. Slowly I look up to the door, and see the shadow of someone standing outside.

My breathing picks up and I forget all about my phone as I start tip toeing my way towards the bathroom. Right now I just need to make as much distance as I can.

I don't hear any more footsteps so I pick up my pace to a soft walk, making sure not to make any noise.

Silently closing and locking the door behind me, and I grab a pair of scissors that are conveniently sitting on the sink. Taking a few steps away from the door I face it with the scissors in my hand, ready to attack if need be.

I hear the door of my bedroom rattle a little before the thief gives the door a good kick of frustration. I then hear receding footsteps and my tense body relaxes a bit.

Once I'm sure I can't hear any other noises or footsteps I collapse to the ground and start heaving breathing. My heart is pounding and I put a hand over it to calm it down.

I wait in my bathroom for what feel like hours. I don't move from my position on the floor, and still hold the scissors just in case.

Only when I see the darkness of the night seep in from the bottom of the bathroom door do I finally decide to make my way out.

Slowly opening the bathroom door, I peek my head out to see nothing but darkness. Opening the door a little more I make my way out of the bathroom and use the walls to lead my to the light switch by the bedroom door. Flicking it on, I turn around and see Mr Lodon sitting on my bed giving me a grin that send shivers down my spine.

My eyes go wide and I just gape at him. When did he get in?!? How-

My eyes shift to the open balcony door that brings in the cold night air.

Fuck. Should have checked if it was locked too.

I close my eyes and curse myself for being so careless.

"Should be more careful Princess." Mr Lodon smartly comments pointing to the balcony door behind him.

Shooting him a glare I'm about to ask him why he is here when I remember Julie's words.

"It's all in my head. It's all in your head Camila." I chant to myself walking over to my dresser and start brushing my hair.

From the mirror I can see Mr Lodon tilt his head in amusement as he continues to look at me.

"Camila. It's fine. There is no one there. It's just in your head." I continue repeating to myself.

Making my over over to my bed, I do my best not to glance at the crazy scientist who's eyes follow me.

Walking past him, I make my way over to the other side of the bed and slip under the covers.

"I'm just really sleep deprived. I will be fine after some sleep." I tell myself.

Closing my eyes I do my best to ignore the gaze of the imaginary man behind me.

Just as I feel the threads of sleep envelop me, I feel a warm hand on my cheek and a soft but deep voice in my ear.

"I'm letting you go tonight because you amused me. You won't be so lucky next time, Princess."

The last thing I feel is a feathery presence on my forehead before I lose all connection with reality and fall into deep sleep.
