Come on, come on! Oh! I hate waiting. The door swish open and a nurse darts out. I jump up and hurry to her and she disappears into another door. I was to slow. I start to go back to my chair. She hurries back out and into the room with the door that goes swish, holding more blood bags.
Jeremy comes out of know where, waving his hand in front of me. I blink my eyes a few times to focus. He holds a cup of coffee out to me. "Drink up. Any news?"
I growl softly. "No. Just a nurse getting one blood bag after another."
"Well that's good, is it not?"
I glare at him. The growl is getting louder.
"No, don't be that way, man. I mean, they're still buzzy. They have not stopped, that means she's still alive."
My wolf lifts his head up at that. It's the first time he's shown anything since they took our mate in the operating room. I grunt and take the coffee. It hot and burns my tongue, it does not matter. I just drink it and it tastes bland. Jeremy sits next to me with his legs stretched out, as if this is the living room. I just shake my head at him and swallow the rest of the coffee. I crunch up the cup and toss it in the bin.
"Liam. Take a break. I'll mind link you as soon as that door opens. Hell, I'll keep it shut till you get back, if you want me to. "
"Thanks, Jer...." I stand up and go to the restroom. I wash my hands and my face to keep my head clear and return to Jeremy.
"Nothing yet."
I sit down again and stare at my hands. The door goes swish once more, but I stay put and just look up. The doctor is standing there in his green scrubs, taking a deep breath and then starts to walk towards us. I can feel the blood drain from my face and I begin to shake. Jeremy jumps up and rush to the doctor. "What's the news doc?" he asks. The doc side steps him and keeps eye contact with me.
I stand up slowly. "Doc?" I whisper. It feels as if I have not spoken in weeks. My mouth is completely dry.
By this time the doctor is standing in front of me. "I have good news and I have bad news."
I feel weak just by the sound of that.
"The good news is," the doc continues, "is that she has made it thru the surgical procedure. The bad news is that we ran out of human blood."
My legs give way under me. Jeremy grabbed me before I hit the ground. Jeremy and doc helps me to the nearest chair. "There is more, "
I nod my head while Jeremy taps his foot in impatience.
"the other good news is that the wolf that bit her, carried the maker gene."
Relieved at the news, I sag more in my chair. Realizing what this means for my mate, I jump up. "Can I see her?"
"Yes. She is being moved to the recovery room and we will meet up with her there." The doc walks in front to show the way. She looks super small in the specialty made hospital bed. It's made for werewolf frame in mind. There is tubes and machines all around her.
"What.... " I start to say, but doc held up his hand.
"Remember that she is still more human than werewolf at the moment and that she will only become a full werewolf, once she successfully shifted."
There is a huff at the door and Jeremy's voice is muffled, but annoyed. He mind links me...
"Can you please open the door and give me a hand?"
I open the door and just stare....
"Help? Or are you going to stand the hole time till she wakes up?"
"There is a chair over there..." doc begins to say, but Jeremy just grows. "That's not fit for the alpha. This one can recline."
"But,... but that's my chair. Out of my office...."
"Yes? So? I'm sure you won't mind if you're Alpha use it in the mean time.... If you do, just tell me now."
"No. Sorry, Alpha Liam, Beta Jeremy. I'll take my leave now."
The doc steps out of the room.

"What? O, come on. I have already placed an order in for a new one. Dark brown, like he wanted, but could not get it due to the lack of stock. And he was impatient. The new one is the massage one, with a cup holder. See? An upgrade, your thanks for this one and a good job done. "
"That is coming out of your paycheck."
"Na aah! Your mate, your credit card."
With that, he puts the chair as close to the bed as possible. He tilts his head and moves the chair a inch to the left. "Rest. I'll bring you some breakfast and paper work form the office. Humans don't heel as fast as we do. You will have to keep busy. I have already put our best trackers on the rouge sent." Satisfied with this, he leaves. I shake my head and wipe my hand down my face. Hell! My best friend and the biggest pain in my butt, turned out to be the best beta ever!
