"Amelia!!" I tipped my mug filled of hot tea down my shirt at my friends sudden outburst from her bedroom. The sound of her feet quickly succeeded her scream as she came running into our small kitchen/lounge area. "Amelia?" Riley sweetened, quietening her voice to one of a normal person's volume. This scared me more than when she screamed it meant she had a serious problem and if that problem was directed at you, you better get ready to run.
"Yes, my best friend in the whole wide world" I sweetened back as I pulled my wet and hot shirt from my chest.
"Why the f*ck didn't you tell me Killian FRICKEN Stone was going to YOUR cousins wedding?!!" Her face turned an unsoundly red as she close nearly shouted her question, turning my relaxed face into a smile as I started to laugh at her outburst.
My mouth formed a smile but my laugh caught in my through as her words caught up to my brain. Killian Stone??? My face quickly lost all its happiness as I tried to understand what my friend had asked me.
"What?!" I shouted, this time properly dropping my mug to the floor allowing it to smash on the tiles. "What do you mean Killian Stone is coming to the wedding?" I ignored the hot liquid that was leaking around my feet. This was way more important. "Wait! Which Killian Stone are we talking about??"
Riley stared at me like I had grown an extra head. I was never dramatic or acted in a dramatic way. Keeping my calm was what made our relationship work so easily. Riley was the crazy spontaneous person who pushed me whilst I pulled her back enough to keep her normal and on task. We were perfect together, most of the time, and if she was a guy I would literally be in love with her.
"Babe....." Her voice was soft as she reached for a kitchen towel dropping it on the floor to soak up the tea. She then carefully moved me backwards into one of our kitchen chairs and started to pick up the pieces of mug. I just sat there hyperventilating, changing the situation in my mind a hundred times until I came up with a simple reason that fixed the problem.
"It must be a different Killian" I said calmly.
Riley wiped up the mess and swept up any smaller bits of mug before coming to sit at the tiny table with me. "Well..." she said cautiously giving me a sly look. I knew this whole situation was totally amusing to her as well as her being utterly curious as to why I reacted like an utter lunatic just to a guys name. "I'm talking about the up and coming football star Killian Stone who is as hot as they come and as much of a player in the sheets as he is on the field." Her eyes glinted cheekily as she described him. "And your talking about...?" She prodded.
I closed my eyes and shook my head. "The same f*ck&ng guy." Riley immediately started to giggle.
"OMG you have to tell me what happened?? Now!!! I need details!!! Why have you never told me you guys are family friends???" She leaned closer across the table grabbing my hand in support and as well a way to squeeze the truth out of me.
I twisted in my seat to face her. "We are not family friends. I don't know why he's invited to the wedding. And there is not story to tell." I stood from the table and walked towards our blue couch. Riley and me had slowly designed our apartment over the two years we had been here. Slowly buying small pieces of furniture to turn the place into ours. The blue couch we had placed in front of a TV perfectly contrasted with our silver grey walls as well as the white wooden side tables.
Riley rushed to sit next to me "Lies" She pointed at me. "Is this about that guy you met a few months ago?? The hot stranger that you had a one-night stand with??"
"No. He was different." I scolded at her. "And I thought I said never bring him up again." I wined. That was another story for a different melodramatic day, probably for my next time of the month. God knows the day before I am all kinds of emotional.
"This happened about three years ago." I explained.
"Tell me!!" Riley bounced next to me.
"No." I stood up from the couch and glanced at the clock. 10:05.
"We need to get to the airport."
"Lia, our plane doesn't leave until 1:30." She stands up with me grinning at my chaotic reaction.
"I know, but we won't get there till 11 and then have about an hour to to check in and then we can relax get magazines and have some wine. I desperately need wine" I added as I walked to my room to finish up the last of my packing.
We were going back home for the holidays as well as for my cousin, Rebecca's wedding to the famous singer Noah King. They have the love written in movies, and whilst I am beyond happy for my cousin, she is the last from my oldest aunties children to be married, leaving my mother asking her children constantly when they are going to settle down. Thankfully this type of talk is directed more at my older brothers than me, but I still get attacked at family dinners. I think because my brothers have never brought home any girls whilst I have properly dated 2 guys, leading my mother to believe I will settle down first.
I have an unbelievably close family. My cousins are like my brothers and sisters, with us even growing up for a short time living on the same street. My mother who the second child of four with her oldest sister, Jessica, having four children: one boys and three girls. My mother then having four as well, two boys then me and finally another boy. The child after my mum is my uncle, John who has two children, one boy and one girl. And finally there is my aunt, Cecilia who was the woman I turned to for girl help growing up. There is a wide age gap between her and my uncle John leaving her to be only 8 years older than me. She is currently pregnant with a little baby boy who is due after Christmas.
It was a full house growing up, my dad's family is smaller but we never really saw them since they lived on the other side of the country in California. Then when my parents divorced and my second oldest brother left for college two years ago, my dad decided to move closer to his family, leaving us here.
"Ready?" Riley's voice jerked me out of my thoughts as I found her standing in the doorway.
"Ready" I grabbed my bags and walked with her to the front door.
