After settling into our rooms at my childhood home, me and Riley got dressed for dinner with the whole family.
The wedding was in 3 nights on the 23rd, but until that point there was family and wedding preparation occurring all day and every night. Tonight was a simple dinner with family and close friends, with tomorrow being the bachelor and bachelorette parties.
"Ready, girl?" Riley walked into my room with a emerald green pantsuit on that perfectly complements her slightly tanned skin and brown hair. Her makeup matched her bag and shoes with it mainly using gold glitter.
"Nearly." I looked back to the mirror finishing off my own makeup. I was wearing my own pantsuit that was fancy but still kept me warmish. It was dark blue, tightly fitted and strapless.
I quickly put on small black heels and grabbed my bag off my bed.
"Lets go." I walked out my door and down the hallway passing Riley and my brothers rooms as I passed.
When we got downstairs my mum and brothers were waiting with the latter being nicely dressed in almost suits. Something my mother most likely enforced upon them.
We took two cars to the dinner that was happening at the locally country club. Fancy, I know. But my cousin is marrying a superstar and the country club offers the best security apparently.
I was stressed and beyond anxious about potentially seeing him but I tried to rationalise in my head that he was most likely not even going to be there. This dinner was for family and close friends and Rebecca had never mentioned Killian before, never even stating they were friends. I am sure that Noah, Rebecca fiancé, is simply acquaintance with Killian and thats why he's invited
Sure he is. My brain whisper. I decided to ignore that.
The car ride was long and filled with arguments between my two brothers who I was riding with.
When we arrived I quickly opened the door and jumped out, grabbing Riley's arm as I passed. I pulled her with me at a fast pace to the entrance, leaving my family behind me.
"Jeez, Lia whats the rush?" She flustered, trying to keep up with me. "OMG, are you desperate to see him??" She squealed.
No, I was not desperate to see him, I actually never wanted to see him again, but obviously I hadn't made that clear enough to her. Which is probably because I didn't tell her about the morning, my disastrous wake up, as I had nicknamed it.
I wanted to enter the place before my family and if he was there I would see him quickly and have a short window to compose myself. And I needed time to compose myself, due to Lincoln, my brother's uncanny ability to read my emotions like they were literally stamped to my forehead. He would figure it out in a second that I was unsure of seeing someone and over the course of the night he would have worked out the whole story. The boy really is too smart for his own good, or maybe not smart but observant.
I pulled Riley to the room our little dinner was happening and got our names ticked off at the door. The room was simply a long table that had space to seat 30 people, with extra tables lining the walls that were filled with an assortment of foods. Rebecca loves self serve banquets and insisted that at least one of these nights going up to her wedding include one.
The place was filled of nearly everyone I assume with people either sitting at their assigned spot or standing up chatting next to the table.
My eyes did a fast survey of the room, looking for tall males with dark hair, but unfortunately no Killian was found. I mean fortunately. I am over the moon that he is not here and I do not have to see him or even potentially try to have some sort of talking like speaking encounter with him.
"No, Killian, Lia. Your in the clear." Riley whispered to me and I nodded back at her placing a small smile on my face, as my mother and brothers entered the room next to us.
"Shit sis, I've never seen you move that fast." Lincoln remarked, smirking at me knowingly.
My mother quickly lifted her hand and swatted him across the head. "Lincoln, language!"
"Sorry, ma." Lincoln replied whilst rubbing his head and rolling his eyes.
"Mia!!!" A voice screamed. And I turned just in time to prepare myself for the attack of cousin Rebecca's hug.
I laughed and hugged her hard against me. I haven't seen her, as well as most of my family in nearly a year.
My cousins and my siblings and I were close growing up. For most of my life we lived on the same street. We had our own little 'groups' within, mostly determined by age but we were all always there for each other. Usually when someone got a little to drunk and you had to go get them. Usually it was me, going after my older cousins and brothers.
Rebecca was my oldest mother sister, Jessica's third child. She had 3 girls and then 1 boy, the opposite to my own mother. Rebecca and me are pretty much the same age with her having two older sisters, Lucy and Rachel, and one younger brother, Adam.
My Uncle John's children, Emily, who was my age as well, and Ethan, whose a year younger, both were apart of our little 'group' as well as my younger brother Kane.
Ethan and Kane were the same age so they stayed together. Leaving Rebecca, Emily and me, to become even more closer than average cousins in a close family. I had missed them like crazy with both of them being across country at their own colleges.
I had another squeal of delete before I was crowded by another body. Emily's voice shouted in my ear, "OMG I have missed you so much"
Emily turned us quickly so I was facing towards the door and grabbed Riley who was standing next to me. "Are you Riley?"
Riley smiled huge and nodded her head.
"OMG it's so great to finally meet you." She quickly was hugging Riley and jumping her up and down. Yeah, Emily was the enthusiastic one, she loved hugs and also the use of OMG. Her and Riley should get along swimmingly since they were pretty much the same person.
Rebecca was stood laughing at them and then moved on to greet my brother and mother. Leaving me stood facing the door.
That was mistake number 1 of the night. When he who-shall-not-be-named decided to walk through the door pausing behind my family who was conveniently blocking entry into the room.
I know my plan had been to run and hide, but I froze and couldn't stop staring at his face.
Whilst Killian was stunningly handsome, he was the hottest man on earth in my own. It was his personality and attitude that had truly resulted in me becoming slightly obsessed with him since our encounter.
I wasn't ever the person who could see a random stranger and hook up with them. I had to know them a little, with personalities and actions being the main point of my attraction.
Slightly weird I know. But it's the truth.
Of course, I can still attracted to a hot guy, but to have that sort of unable-to-stop-thinking-about-them attraction, that happened from getting to know them.
And over the last year, I had seen Killian, gotten to know him from interviews and reports. I know logically that most of them exaggerated positive qualities about him, but it still did the job, leaving me pinning after a man who doesn't give a shit about who I am or the ngiht that happened between us.
So, I let myself stand still and stare at him, hoping he both ignored me and also turned and confessed his love to me. Pathetic, I know.
But he did either, he simply lifted his head and stared at me.
