After our proclamation of our love for one another the nights seemed even easier than before. It was always easy when he was in my bed with me but it was beginning to feel more like our bed.
I woke to a knock on our bedroom door to find Jonathan's arms around me. When I tried to slide out of bed he held me tighter.
"No." He mumbled in his sleep.
"Hush now. I'm just going to answer the door." I pressed my lips to his forehead.
He whined softly but released me.
"Your majesty. King Abasi and Queen Daria have arrived." Gunter said when I opened the door.
My heart stopped in my chest.
"I was not expecting them." I forced out.
"They did not give a reason for their arrival, your highness."
"Tell them I will be down as soon as I am able."
I leaned against our bedroom door for a moment before going back to the bed.
"Jonathan. Jonathan." I shook him gently but frantic.
He moaned softly before turning to look at me.
Almost instantly he seemed to notice the expression painted on my face. He sat up.
"What is it?" He asked touching me.
"Gunter said that the royals from Pyre are here." I answered.
"Why are they here?"
"I don't know." I shook my head.
"I cannot face him alone."
"You don't have to. You don't have to. Get dressed and I'll be right here beside you the whole time." He assured me.
I nodded still unsure.
"I promised I would protect you and I will." He pressed his lips to my forehead before leaving to dress.
I decided on a strapless black floor length black ruffled ballgown and a classic gold and emerald tiara.Jonathan met me at the top of the stairs. My hands shook as my heart raced.
"Hey. Amya. I'm right here. You don't have to worry." He said touching me gently.
I nodded as I tried to take a deep breath. My chest felt tight and I couldn't get a full breath in.
"I can't do this, Jonathan."
"You can. I will be right here. We can have some of the guard in the room too." He said gently.
"Okay. Okay. Let's get this over with." I sighed.
Jonathan took my hand as we walked down the stairs. He left me for only a moment to ask Gunter and Jordan to stand in the great room watching over us.
Reluctantly, I walked into the great room to find King Abasi playing with a fire ball and Queen Daria watching him on one of the couches.
Jonathan stayed very close to me as King Abasi caught sight of us.
"Ah. Princess Amya and...?" He looked at Jonathan.
"Jonathan." He said simply touching my waist.
"A peasant. Amya, you are better than that." He smirked at me.
"Is that why you have come here? To criticize my relationship?" I asked finding my strength in Jonathan.
"No. Of course not. We have come to offer our condolences."
"The funeral was last month." I scoffed.
"Something came up in Pyre that we had to attend to." He answered.
"Of course. I appreciate your condolences but you easily could have sent a letter. Please, we are very busy trying to prepare for my coronation. If there is something the two of you require then just say it." I sighed agitated.
I knew why they were there. He had me and I'd escaped from the dungeon. He wanted to see if he could intimidate me.
"There is not. We just thought it would be more appropriate to give our condolences in person. Is Griffin still in your employ?"
"He is not. There was an incident that came to light after my father's death and I released half of my guard."
"May I ask?"
"You may not. It is of no concern to anyone. It has been handled."
"It has come to our attention that you have taken to healing the sick children in the hospital." He narrowed his eyes at me.
"I like trying to do my part for the next generation."
"Perhaps it would be better if you were to give the next generation their leader."
"I am more than a conduit for an heir." I hissed causing Jonathan to tighten his grip on my hip.
"Perhaps." Abasi shrugged.
"Kings are more. Queens have but one responsibility. One purpose."
"You miss my father's funeral and come into my home and insult me? Leave.
"Gunter. Jordan. Show the royals of Pyre to the door."
"Aye, your majesty." Gunter nodded.
"If you believe this is the end for us, you are sorely mistaken." Abasi hissed at me.
"Do not threaten me." I growled back.
"It is not a threat, Princess. It is a promise." He smirked at me as Gunter urged him out of the room.
"You held your own very well, Amya." Jonathan said pulling me out of the great room and towards the library.
"I could feel your strength. It calmed me." I admitted.
"I will always be here for you." He smiled at me once we were alone.
I smiled at him wrapping my arms around his neck. He kissed me gently wrapping his arms around my waist.
I laid my head on his shoulder.
"Did I hear you say relationship earlier?" He teased.
"Well, we have been sleeping in the same bed, kissing, saying that we love each other. There isn't too much we haven't done."
"Namely define our relationship." He pressed his lips to my shoulder.
"Well, what is it you want this to be?" I pulled back still holding him.
He looked down at me.
"Well, I fell in love with you so I want this to be forever." He smiled.
"You want to be a king." I poked at him playfully.
"I want to be with you. I don't care about anything else that comes with it."
"Good. I want to be with you too."
I kissed him again pulling him closer to me.
