Later that night I found myself alone in the library. I sat in the armchair, a book open in my lap staring at nothing, resting my forehead on my hand.
"Amya?" Jonathan said gently next to me.
"Huh? Oh. Hey." I said looking up at him.
"Are you alright?" He asked kneeling down.
"As alright as I can be." I sighed.
"Is there anything I can do?"
"Stay with me."
He smiled at me.
"I'm not going anywhere."
The next morning I woke next to him again. I moved slowly out of the bed as not to wake him. I pulled out a green floor length off the shoulder dress with large sparkles down to my knees and a sheer green cape with a small train, and walked into the washroom to shower and change.
Jonathan was still asleep when I returned. I fastened my diamond tiara on my head.
"Amya." Jonathan breathed in his sleep.
I turned to look at him. He had curled onto his side facing my side of the bed.
"Amya." He moaned balling his hand into a fist.
His face twisted in pain.
"Jonathan." I said his name gently as I walked towards the bed.
"Amya. Help me." He begged.
I sat down on the bed next to him and placed my hand gently on his bicep.
"I'm here, Jonathan. You're okay." I willed some of my energy to pass through me to gently wake him.
As his eyes opened he turned to look up at me.
"Amya?" He breathed.
"You were having a nightmare. You were calling my name."
"I dreamt about the dungeon." He admitted.
I moved so I could take his hand.
"I know that it won't make the nightmares go away but it's over. You're safe and I won't let anything happen to you. I won't let anyone hurt you ever again." I ran my other hand through his hair.
"That does help me feel better now." He smiled up at me.
"Good." I moved my hand from his hair down to his bare chest.
My fingertips absentmindedly traced one of his scars until he caught my hand.
I looked up into his eyes.
"Sorry." I whispered.
He sat up, both of my hands still in his.
"I didn't mean to scare you, Amya. It tickles." He smiled at me.
"I've just been through so much."
"I know. I'm trying my best to make sure you feel comfortable."
"I do feel comfortable with you. Sometimes I still get nervous. It isn't you."
He pulled gently on my hands so he could wrap his arms around me.
"I will never do anything to hurt you, Amya. Ever."
I nodded against his chest as we held each other.
"I have to try to fill those six guard positions." I muttered against him with a sigh.
"How do you even do that?" He asked running his hand over my back.
"I have no idea." I admitted.
"Come on. Let's get you a shirt and we'll figure it out. I mean, if you want to."
"I'd be honored to accompany you, Princess." He smiled at me.
Cameron joined us with Kay.
"My parents explained to me what happened. You must know you have my unyielding support, Amya." She said touching my hand.
"I do know that, Kay. You are my most trusted friend." I smiled at her.
Jonathan rubbed my back gently as we sat with Cameron and Kay while we waited for King Zeid to join us.
"Who did you keep on?" She asked watching Jonathan and I.
"Nicolas, Eliot, Christian, Theo, Tobey and Isaac." I answered.
"Griffin was involved?" She looked at me shakily.
"I'm surprised your father didn't tell you he had to step between Griffin and I last night." I answered leaning towards Jonathan.
"I wonder what has gotten into him."
"I don't know. I couldn't stand for the things he did. I can't have that in my home or in my kingdom."
"And that is why you will be a righteous queen." King Zeid said walking into the room.
"Thank you, your highness." I smiled up at him.
"Each of the three kingdoms have two guards that are volunteering to step in for the six guard you released. King Octavius, King Quincy and I know these guards personally."
"We thought we knew Griffin." I answered anxiously.
"I cannot imagine what you have been through. Please trust us. We want to rally around you." He said gently.
After a long moment I looked at Jonathan who nodded at me.
"Okay. I apologize if my hesitation comes across as ungratefulness." I said.
"No, Amya. It does not. It just shows that you have been through unspeakable pain and you distrust people. It is beyond understandable. I have seen you with this young man, his brother, my daughter; it is refreshing to see you at peace after the things you have been through."
He looked over at Jonathan.
"Allow me to tell you one thing, young man. This woman is a treasure and you must charish her."
"I fully intend to." He smiled at me.
"Good because she is as my own daughter and I will protect her."
"Your highness." I chuckled.
"It is quite alright, Princess." Jonathan rubbed my back.
"I will never do anything to hurt you."
"If you will meet your new guard in the foyer?" King Zeid motioned to me to follow him.
Jonathan and I walked into the foyer and were greeted by six men standing shoulder to shoulder.
"Harry and Jordan come from Marl. Deryk and Gunter from Zephyr. Dorian and Jack from Pura." King Zeid said.
"Are you sure you can spare them?"
"Yes. Of course. We want you to have the full guard for the foreseeable future."
Jonathan wrapped his arm around me.
"He's right, Amya."
"I know he is. I just don't want the other kingdoms unprotected because of me."
"Ten guards is not unprotected." King Zeid chuckled.
"Okay." I smiled at the king.
"My daughter has informed me that she does not want to return home until she is certain you are safe."
I shook my head.
"She is a stubborn one." I laughed.
"Aye. She is. As are you." He smiled at me.
"You and your brother take care of my girls, Jonathan Black."
"We will, your highness."
With that the royals left Timbre Castle.
