This is my first book, so please don't judge me too harsh. I hope you guys like it. If you have any suggestions please tell me in the comments.
* * *Hmm... What is this gonna be, I wondered. I was doodling in my room. I didn't quite know what my drawing would be though, for all I knew it could've been a shrub of some sort.
It was summer so I guess I should have been happy, but I wasn't. I just wanted to get back to school. School was my sanctuary, one of the only places I could be myself. I loved extracurriculars and was part of the drama club. I was part of the yearbook staff, too. I guess you could've said I was an over achiever, and you wouldn't be wrong. My number one goal was to make it to college. My parents had always taught me to take my education seriously because they never wanted me to have to depend on someone else in this world. So while everyone was out on vacation or having fun at the beach (since I just so happened to live in freaking Miami, Florida), I was yearning to do something useful.
I was sixteen that summer and going into the eleventh grade. Most girls my age had had multiple boyfriends, I hadn't . It wasn't that I hadn't been asked out because I had, it's just that I didn't have the time for commitment. Of course I'd had a few crushes but nothing had ever come of them. In my life almost all of my crushes had moved away. There was Nash who moved to Tennessee, Zane who moved to Alabama, and Roland who moved to Texas. Do you see the pattern? That's just one of the reasons I was scared to date anyone, the fear of getting hurt or left behind. That all would change that summer.
There was a boy I had taken a liking to at the time, his name was Trey Taylor. He was way out of my league, but I liked him anyway. No matter how hard I tried , I couldn't convince my heart to listen to my brain. I didn't want to have a crush on anyone.
In my opinion I look pretty average. Although I do look like my sister Jordan, she is pretty. I have blue eyes and brown hair that looks like it was curled with a curling iron. My hair also looks like I have ginger highlights, but it's my natural hair color. I'm five foot four. I'm part Cuban, Irish, and Indian. I have what looks like a spray-tan but is really just the color of my skin.
I go to a small town school named Chelsea High.
I have two best friends, America and Christiana. America has straight as a board (as she says), ginger-red hair. She has green eyes. Her nickname to me is Ames and to Christiana her nickname is Eric. Ames is like me in a lot of ways, she likes to read and dance. Christiana has wavy, dirty-blond hair. My nickname for her Chris, but Ames calls her Tiana. Chris doesn't believe in the fact that names identify your gender. She thinks that if someone automatically thinks you are a boy just because you have a name that isn't a common girl name but, a common boy name then you are not worth knowing. Chris loves drawing and anime.
"Wendy!" My mom calls, as I add a nose to the face I am now drawing.
"What?" I tell back.
"What are you doing?" She replies, with a question like she tells us not to do.
"Drawing, why?" I reply, while putting my notebook down on my desk and getting up.
"Can you take Jack to Brandon's house?" She asks.
Jackson is my little brother, he goes by Jack. He is six years younger than me. He acts a lot like me in some ways.
I know that my mom isn't giving me a choice in the matter so I get up and reply, "yeah."
At that moment, I hear my phone vibrate on my night stand. I go over to it and check it. I have a text message from Ames.
Ames: hey wryd?
Me: bout 2 take Jack 2 Brandon's u?
After a minute of waiting for her to reply, I go to my closet and pull out a blue, yellow, and white striped sundress and go to my bathroom and to get dressed.
When I'm done getting dressed I put on a magenta colored lipstick and some mascara.
My phone vibrates so I check it.
Ames: is that not Trey's house 2?
Brandon is a year younger than Jack and Jack's best friend. He also just so happens to be Trey's younger brother.
Me: yeah
Ames: ooh...
Me: yeah, yea... lol
Ames: well since your going out anyway, do you want to meet up at the promenade and shop?
Me: sure and we can go 2 the food court afterwards and eat🍕🍟🍔
Ames: cool, see u then!😉
As I run downstairs, after putting on my white sandals, I grab my car keys from the key holder and tell "Jack, if you're coming, you better be out in the car in two minutes! Bye mom, love you."

So, I'm going through editing. Not much will change but if you want more of a backstory about my characters, now would be the time to read it. The chapters will increase in size.
Also, I just realized that it is summer which means one thing, this book is having it's one year anniversary of being an idea, of course it's an actual book now tho.
Happy One Year Anniversary to: In The Summer!!! Anyone want to join me for a celebration?
