I can't believe I asked my neighbor out. I don't even know him and his mom said he was a year older than me. I have never been this straight forward with guys.
Alex is hot though. He has his dark brown hair in the style of a buzz cut. He has swoon worthy hazel eyes with gold flakes in them. His mom said they moved here from Cuba.
I hear a knock on the door. He's here.
Alex is wearing a white t-shirt that fits him perfectly. He has jeans and black Nike's on.
"So, where to first?" He asks.
"I don't know, how about we start by going to the festival and we can do a round. Then we will both know someone. Plus then you can meet the people on the block. We can leave after and go to the ice cream shop in town." I say, now that I think of it... it kind of doesn't sound like such a great idea.
"Well, since I know you maybe. We don't have to stay long though, right? I really don't want to stay long at a party where I don't know anyone." He says, looking a bit nervous.
"Yeah, sure. That's perfectly fine. I wasn't planning on staying long anyway. My mom said if I wanted to I could go meet you. She also asked if I could maybe bring you over to the festival so that you could meet the neighborhood."
"Yeah, let's do that." He says, suddenly grinning like a fool.
I duck my head and grin. "Let's go. Do you wanna walk or ride?"
"I'm fine with walking."
We walk in a comfortable silence for about half the way to Heritage Park.
"So, you are going into your junior or senior year?" Alex says.
"Junior. I'm excited. I know it's silly but I kind of want to get valedictorian. Your going into your senior year, right?" I say embarrassed by the fact that I want a thing I'm sure I won't get.
"It's not silly and yeah. I'm not sure where I want to go to school yet, though. I have a scholarship from New York University and from the University of Alabama, already. I kind of want to go to Bama but I think I could go farther in New York for the job I want." He says, looking passionate about what he is talking about.
Are you thinking about going to any other colleges?" I ask, curiously.
"I am but I don't think we have the money for it. I hope to get accepted into Stanford and Auburn, too. They are my next two choices. What college do you want to go to?"
"I don't know yet. Hopefully Harvard or Yale or maybe even Stanford. All I know is I want to make a difference whether it is teaching or being a doctor, I want to make a difference."
I don't yet know exactly what I want to do with my life. My parents tell me I need to figure it out. I have a few options I have came up with. One is a college professor. Another is a neonatal nurse. The last is a meteorologist.
"That's cool." He says, as we arrive at Heritage Park.
"You ready for this?" I say as we walk through the entrance.
"I think so. You?"
"As long as I have someone to talk to. All my friends are on vacation." I say.
Ames went to Orange Beach and Chris went to Florida. I am kind of lonely for summer. Maybe I would be enjoying my summer if they were here. Maybe not. Ames us getting back next week. Chris isn't getting back until next month. At least one of my best friends will be here soon.
"Well I guess we have each other. Let's do this." He says, smiling.
"Yeah." I say.
"Wendora, I thought your mum said you weren't coming. It's nice to see you!" Mrs. Jones says.
Mrs. Jones was my fourth grade teacher. She's my favorite teacher and my mom is friends with her. She has a British accent that I just love.
"I wasn't going to but I was told to retrieve my neighbor and bring him. So I did. This is Alexader." I say, gesturing toward Alex.
"Hi! You can call me Alex." He says, with a smile.
"I'm Mrs. Jones. I'm the fourth grade teacher at the elementary school."

I plan on updating once everyday or every other day but I may end up only updating once every week. Please share this story with your friends if you like it. I have some ideas on how this story will plan out but feel free to give me suggestions. Please follow or vote if you like this story too.
So, this chapter has officially been edited. Not much changed. I'm happier with it now, though. How has everyone's summer been (if it is your summer anyway)? Mine has been pretty uneventful.
