"Oh. My. God! Guess what?!?!" Ames says. I called her today, to tell her about last night and about having a date with Alex. She surprises me because she has news, too.

"What?" I say.

"I heard from Carol's brother's best friend's sister that Carol broke up with Trey. It gets better! She said that Carol broke up with him because she confronted him about being jealous of a girl and he couldn't deny it. She said the girl's name was Wendora and she was with a boy named Alex. It had to be you! No one else has the name Wendora!"

I'm shocked there is no way that he was jealous of me. Too good to be true. Although, I do have a pretty unique name and I was with Alex.

"Yeah, it was me. I have a date with Alex today. That's why I called. He just moved in next door and he's seventeen. He's hot and plays football. On top of all that he likes me. He said so himself."

"WHAT?!" She says, shock clearly in her voice. "This all happened yesterday and you didn't think to tell me, your best friend?"

"I'm sorry at the time I was to shocked to tell anyone. Your the first to know."

"Okay, I forgive you. Wait... you have a date. I want to help you decide what to wear. Put me on video chat. Do you even have a plan? What time is your date and where are you going?"

"No, I don't have a plan and we are going to Mr. Jackson's office so that he can talk to him about tryouts. After that I don't know. We're going at one o'clock."

I put Ames on video chat and set my phone up on my dresser. I walk over to my closet and pull out a sundress with a flowery pattern. I turn and walk in view of my phone.

"What about this?"

"Hell, no! Girl, you are no grandma. Cut the flowery crap."

My jaw drops, Ames is rarely this forward. She also rarely cusses.

"Okay then." I say and walk back to my closet.

I suddenly know exactly what to wear. I pull out the dress Chris made me buy at the Promenade. I had saw the dress and tried it on. I had no intentions of actually buying it. I just thought it was adorable. Chris saw me when I tried it on. She made me buy it. I still haven't worn it.

I take out the dress and show it to Ames.

"What about this one?"

Ames gasps and says, "When did you get that?"

"At the Promenade, Chris made me buy it. We were shopping for your birthday and I saw it. I tried it on. She saw, made me buy it. End of story."

"That one is perfect. You have to wear that. He will blow a gasket. Put it on. I wanna see it." She says, a grin on her face.

I put it on and put on some light makeup. I walk out and twirl for Ames.

"What do you think?"

"Good luck. Even though you won't need it, in that dress." She says as the bell rings. "Well I guess you better go. Call me with all the details when you get home! Love you, bye. " She hangs up.

I put on my white sandals with intricate designs. The sandals cost me roughly thirty-five dollars.

I run downstairs to see Jack giving Alex a stare down.

Alex looks up as I walk into view. His jaw drops. I smile.

"Hey." I say.

Jack looks up and shoots me a glare. He has been like my mom he teases me just like her. He doesn't want me to go out with Alex. He always thought Trey liked me.

"Hey." Alex says.

"How about we get out of here before my little brother, Jack, kills someone."

"Yeah..."

We are sitting in Alex's car. He has a gray 2003 Mustang with crimson stripes.

"So, why doesn't your little brother like me?" Alex asks, looking over at me.

"Take a left here." I say and he turns.

"I really don't know. I think maybe because he wants me to date Trey. He doesn't want me to date anyone else." I say, my cheeks heating.

"I don't know why anyone would want to date him. He is so clearly stuck up. He probably wouldn't care about your feelings if you did date him. He is popular, right?"

"Yeah..." I say, not knowing where he's going with this.

"Exactly. Most popular jocks date cheerleaders. Especially jocks. You said he was a jock. More than likely he has one-night stands or random hook-ups when he and his off and on girlfriend are broke up. I had a ton of friends at my old school that were exactly like him. I was never for that kind of thing."

"Well... I guess that's good to know. He does go out with a cheerleader."

"I wasn't telling that to you for you to get intimidated or anything. I told you so you know. He sees you as challenge now. He's gonna try to get you to go out with him and when you do, he will crush your heart." He turns and smiles at me, "I'm not gonna let that happen."

"We are here. Turn in there." I say pointing at the building right beside the high school. The coaches for sports all have an office in this building.

He parks and we get out. As we walk side by side up the sidewalk toward the door, he grabs my hand. I almost faint. His hand is rough, as if from hard work.

He opens the door and we walk in. I lead the way to Mr. Jackson's office. As we walk in, I realize that he is not alone. There is a boy in the office with him and they are having a heated conversation.
