Chapter 1

Wei Lin's Castle Above

Min walked into a room she did not recognize, completely unsure of where she was. One moment, she had been talking to Kavaya, and the next, she found herself engulfed in darkness. Every attempt to remember what had happened left her feeling weak and in pain.

As she gathered her strength, Min realized she could walk. Looking ahead, she noticed a light in the distance and ran toward it. As she entered the light, a sudden wave of pain surged through her body, causing her to scream.

"Hold her down. This part is going to be painful," someone instructed.

Confused and terrified, Min wished for it all to stop. Her scream intensified, and she felt her voice beginning to change. She started to growl, and then she heard another scream—someone else's voice echoed her own, both of them reaching a harrowing pitch. The pain intensified, making their screams even louder. In the background, Christopher was crying.

"What's going on?!" a man's voice asked. It sounded like Clive.

"I-I don't know. This is a first for me," a girl said, her voice shaking with fear.

"It's okay, Chris. Mommy's okay. She's okay. Do something!" he demanded, trying to comfort Christopher.

"We need Wei Lin. She would know what's going on," the girl replied, but her words only seemed to make Clive angrier.

"Who the hell is that?" Clive shouted. Had something happened to Kavaya? Why was she screaming? Had Libby come back?

Min felt a surge of energy coursing through her body. She couldn't explain it, but she stopped screaming and shot upright. When she opened her eyes, she saw that she had startled Clive and the girl, who jumped and yelped in surprise. Kavaya quickly sat up, causing them to jump again.

"W-what happened? Where are we? Why am I not in my room? Have we been kidnapped?" Min began shouting a string of questions.

"Ha, ha, ha! No, no, no, you are safe," a beautiful Chinese woman with flowing white hair said as she entered through a set of large double doors. The room was adorned with pink, silver, and yellow satin wallpaper.

"Wei Lin!" the girl exclaimed as she ran to her. Min gave the woman a curious look and hopped off the bed she was in.

"Wait!" Min landed gently on her feet, causing the others to look at her in surprise.

"What?" She stared at them as if they were crazy. Kavaya mirrored Min's actions.

"You both recovered quickly. This is surprising," replied the woman who's named was Wei Li, observing them carefully. Christopher had stopped crying and was reaching out for Kavaya. She took him from Clive's arms, and he felt relieved. Clive kissed her passionately, as if there was no tomorrow. They came up for air, and he hugged both of them tightly. Christopher was much calmer now; he touched her face and gazed into her eyes.

"I thought I lost you," he whispered, his voice shaking. Kavaya took her free hand and touched his face.

"Never. I love you," she replied softly.

"I love you too," Clive said back, kissing her again.

"Okay, you two, we get it. Give my godson some room," Min rolled her eyes. They laughed and looked down at their son, who was smiling up at them. Min approached them.

"What is going on? Did your brother finish picking his collection?" she asked.

"I can't seem to remember after that," Min said, scratching her head in confusion. Kavaya looked at her, puzzled.
