Chapter 4
"No, that one goes over here." Reaching across the board, she pulled the paper out of his hand, at least that's what she had meant to do. Instead, he pulled back, making her fall toward him. She landed on the poster board, moving everything she had just set up. “Cameron, look what you just did.”
He laughed as he tried to pull her up, but he ended up falling over, making everything worse.
Jane managed to sit up and she glared at him as he continued laughing. It didn’t take very long before she was laughing as well.
“Jane. Cameron. You two better be getting that project done.” Jane let out another burst of laughter at her mother’s reminder.
As she continued laughing, she didn’t notice when Cam stopped and simply watched her, a small smile on his lips. “Alright Jane, we might want to hurry and get this project done. Its due tomorrow.”
She clutched her sides as she tried to control her laughter. “I can’t… stop… laughing.” Her laughter increased once again and she rolled onto her back, trying to make the ache in her sides go away.
"Come on Jane, we really do need to get this done."
Finally, her laughter subsided and she took a deep breath before turning to face him. "I don't even know why that was so funny."
He chuckled, shaking his head. "I think its the fact that you're so clumsy that had me laughing. You just couldn't resist my laugh. That's why you joined in."
Rolling her eyes, she nudged him to the side and turned back to the board. When she saw just how bad it was she groaned, annoyed with herself for allowing it to get so messed up; and it was her fault too. "Great, now we have to start all over again."
He wrapped his arm around her shoulder. "Don't worry Jane. We'll have it done in time."
She shrugged and moved forward, making his arm fall. "Not if we don't hurry and get to work. Mom won't let us skip dinner. We have to be done before that, and it's in an hour." She hadn't realized so much time had passed.
It took another forty five minutes before everything was glued to the board in its proper place.
"There, we're finally done." Jane allowed herself to smile, feeling relieved that it was done and ready to turn in.
"See, and you were worried. I told you we'd have it done on time."
She pushed him enough to make him fall over.
His eyes were wide with surprise as he looked up at her. "What was that for?"
Smiling, she moved the board onto her bed, not wanting it to get ruined. "That's for making me fall over earlier."
As he sat back up she could see the mischief in his eyes. "So that's how you want to play, huh? Alright, I can play."
"Be careful Cam, we don't want to ruin all the hard work we just did on the board." She was now on the opposite side of it. The only thing between her and whatever revenge Cameron was planning was a flimsy board.
It didn't look like she was going to get out of this very easily.
"No, we wouldn't want that. Best to put it somewhere no one else will be able to get to it. Wouldn't want it ruined when its due tomorrow." He chuckled and grabbed it before she could. "Lets just put this over here." He put it behind her dresser, sliding it back until most of it was hidden. "There, now we don't have to worry about it."
