Thanks to @cravinq-rain for the amazing cover! I absolutely love it and it's totaly perfect for the story!
This story idea came from the song to the right (or right above this note if you're in the app).
Prologue
"Come on, it's not that high." Jane tugged on her little sister's hand. Kat wasn't exactly small, but a few inches shorter than Jane, so the term worked just fine, even if she was a few years older.
Their height was one thing Jane loved to point out. It bugged Kat more than anything else.
"Just because you aren't scared of falling to your death doesn't mean I want to fall with you. I'd like to be able to still live the life I was meant to have, thank you very much."
She had to laugh at Kat's dramatics. "We're not going to die. Just don't step over the edge." As she finally made it to the cliff edge she looked out over the expanse of the valley, feeling sick. Her stomach turned and she felt as though she was going to fall over.
She knew it was because she was too close to the edge; she was too high. But she didn't care. The rush of being so high was amazing, and she wanted to continue feeling it.
"Jane, haven't we been up here long enough?" Kat sounded more worried than afraid now, but Jane couldn’t understand why. Her mind felt as though it was going fuzzy and she couldn’t think properly.
"Just... just give me a moment." She swayed on her feet as the world spun around her.
"Jane!" A hand grabbed her arm and tugged her backwards, making her lose her fragile balance and fall back, away from the edge.
The fear and nausea slowly faded, but when they were gone, anger took over.
Standing up, she turned to Kat, glaring at her. "What'd you do that for? I didn't hike all the way up here just for you to throw me on the ground. I'm not your weak little sister anymore."
Kat looked surprised for a moment, but it quickly passed and she pushed her dark hair out of her eyes before glaring. "Fine, if you want to go and kill yourself then be my guest, but don't drag me along to do it."
The anger left as quickly as it had come. All she felt now was guilt. She couldn’t even enjoy the fact that, for the first time, she had climbed as high as she did, and there wasn’t even a guy pushing her further.
"Sorry Kat." She mumbled, but Kat had already started heading back down the way they had come.
She finally reached the camp ground. Kat was still obviously mad at her, but Cameron, also known as Cam, was waving her over to his group. Smiling, she made her way over. "What are you guys doing?"
A couple of the guys glanced up, but most of them continued looking at the table, placing the cards on the stacks and Jane quickly realized that they were playing Pounce. Each stack was a different suit and the first card down was the Ace. From there everyone placed the cards, of the same suit, counting from the Ace up to the King.
"Pounce. Do you want to join next round?" Cam was once again focused on the game. "Kat mentioned wanting to play when you guys got back. You two can be a team."
Jane couldn't help but laugh. "Right, Kat will want to work with me. We'll see how that goes." She snorted and Cam glanced up, missing a five of spades he could've placed. "Focus on the game Cam, you're going to lose." He quickly turned back, frowning as he noticed just how quickly the piles had changed. With Pounce all it took was a moment for the table to completely change.
