Chapter 11

Cody's POV

I was still awake, trying to figure out what had happened earlier when Max was rewinding to try and save Kate. It was like I had given Max strength. But that doesn't explain why I passed out afterwards.. I'm still trying to think of possible theories but Max's seemed like the most convincing one at this point. I was awaken from my thoughts by a light knock on my door. Who would knock on my door at this time of night?  

I opened the door to see Max, who was putting her weight on one foot and rubbing her left arm with her right hand nervously. "Hey.." She said quietly, trying not to wake anyone else up as she isn't supposed to be in the boys dorm. "Hey Max. What brings you hear at this time of night?" I asked. "Chloe." Came her simple reply. I looked at her confused, one eyebrow raised. She understood my confusion and continued. "Chloe texted me and said she has something to show us and that we need to meet her outside in front of the main hall. She wanted me to come get you." "Oh okay. Well we shouldn't keep her waiting then." With that said Max and I walked out of the boy's dorms.

Max and I were walking in the area outside the dorms. It was empty and quiet for the most part; other than the wind howling and the few animal noises ever so often heard, because of Blackwell's dorm curfew being well overdue by about 2 hours. we were approaching the main gates that lead to the main hall when we heard Principal Wells fiddling around with his keys. "Ah, fuck it! I'm sitting my ass down. Nobody can expel me! Not yet, anyway..." He said, taking a seat on the stairs. "Shoot. Max how do we get by?" I asked her. "I've got an idea." She said before lifting her hand and rewinding time.

"Cody, walk stealthily and quietly to the main gate. But do it fast okay?" Max said. I trusted her word and understood why once we approached the main gate to see Principal Wells of all people fiddling with his keys trying to get inside the building. Max was behind me and we both made it the gate where we quickly high fived each-other and took off to the main hall.

Once we arrived in front of the main hall Max and I looked everywhere for Chloe. This is interrupted when Chloe came crashing towards Max and I and screamed 'Boo-yah' in our ears. We both jump back in obvious fright before realising that it was Chloe. "Get it? BOO-yah? Like I'm a scary punk ghost..." "More like a scary punk asshole. Hey, Chloe, I didn't exactly have the greatest day trying to keep my friend from jumping off the roof. I don't think I need you to prank me tonight, 'kay?" Max said to her best friend. "Sorry, but you absolutely, balls-to-the-walls did save your friend!" I raise my eyebrows in obvious amusement to Chloe's choice of words, but rather it was done lazily and looked like I was trying to keep myself awake. Max sighed before replying. "Kate saved herself. I couldn't even use my power...my head felt like it was being crushed...then I had NO clue what to say to her on that roof...If it wasn't for Cody giving me extra strength I wouldn't have been able to save her at all. My power would've completely stopped working right then and there." Max explained. "Don't be so modest, rock star. Kate is alive because of YOU. You obviously said the right thing. And your badass power is gonna save us all! We just...need to connect the players." Chloe replied before adding. "Oh yeah, and Cody? that was pretty cool. Max explained what happened once you touched her. You're the source of her power... eh kinda. I guess it'll make you pass out afterwards.." Max sighed again. "And find out who almost killed Kate" Max replied to Chloe's earlier comment.

"We have to stop this from happening to anybody else." Max said. "Oh, yeah, and somehow stop that tornado from wiping out Arcadia Bay...right?" Chloe asked, Almost unsure. "I hope so, Chloe...but how? Snow and eclipse are bad omens." Max said. "This whole town is a bad omen." I mumbled in my tired state. Chloe laughed and continued what I said "Yeah. And notice that Blackwell seems to be ground zero?" "Chloe, I just feel weird about some of my decisions..." Max started before continuing with "Especially after I just got Nathan expelled..." "One more prick down.." I again mumbled. "Dude, do not even torture yourself like that. Let's focus on looking for clues, okay?" Chloe said to Max. "Right. For one thing, there's too much coincidence between the people around Kate and Rachel." Max started. "Like step-prick and Nathan Prescott?" Chloe finished for Max. "Of course. They're both sociopaths." Max replied. "More like psychopaths." Chloe mumbled. "At least David doesn't try to beat down women like Nathan...But he did beat you Cody. I can't stop feeling guilty for that. Maybe I should've intervened." Chloe said almost looking upset with herself for not doing anything. "Chloe, look at me." She did so, looking stiff and tense. "You have nothing to be sorry for. I choose to intervene and so I got what I deserved. This is not your fault." I said. Chloe relaxed afterwards, letting her shoulders droop and her arms fall back down to her sides. "Okay." She replied.
