Jade
Like every day, I was running late to school. Every day, it was harder and harder to get out of bed. Today, it took my dad's Alpha voice to get me up which was not something that happens all the time. Ever since I started Alpha training at the age of thirteen, I have become more resistant to authority but now, I guess my guilt has made me vulnerable, not that I cared.
The car parks in a parking spot, and instantly I get out. The faster I get in, the faster the day goes by. Plus, I don't want my best friend to try to give me a pep talk as she does every day.
"Jade, wait!" I hear her call from a distance. Sighing, I stop and wait for her even though I desperately want to leave her behind.
"Ava, I need to get to class," I said quietly. It's harder to lie to her than it is to anyone because I know she can tell.
She sighs, "Jade, you need to start living your life again. Everything is going to get better." Her words instantly made me angry. She doesn't understand a word she's saying. She doesn't know the pain and guilt I'm feeling so how can she tell me anything is going to get better?! I try not to blow up at her but she keeps talking. "You know you did everything you could. The moon goddess will give you someone-"
I cut her off, "Ava, even if the moon goddess gives me someone else, I will still feel like this. You don't understand a damn thing about what I'm going through so don't act like you know!"
With that, I turn around and walk into school. I know she was trying to help but it's hard to listen to the optimism when you're stuck in a rut. It's been like this for a whole year, and nothing has gotten better. My mate is gone, I'm weaker, and it can only go downhill from here.
As soon as I open the double door, I'm flooded with a delicious scent. I try to pinpoint the person out but it's, unfortunately, not anyone in the room. My wolf for the first time in a year comes out of her dark corner and starts jumping around. Does she know something I don't?
Unfortunately for me, the bell rings which means I need to go to class. My wolf, Jasmine, huffs but doesn't return to her corner. I'm happy she's back because it's been lonely without her.
Thanks, it's good to be back, now go to class, she says making me chuckle as I walk down the hallway.
I'm nearing my first class when I smell that delicious fragrance again. It's coming from inside the room. Opening the door, I walk inside and stare around the sea of students. I faintly hear the teacher scolding me for being late when a girl in the back looks up, making me freeze.
Mate, Jasmine purrs in my head.
It's the girl I fought the rogues in the forest for. The girl I tried to save a year ago. I thought she was dead all this time. My mate.
