Summer had come and gone, bringing with it many unforgettable mishaps and adventures. Dipper and his sister, Mabel, were quite surprised to find Gravity Falls wasn't as boring as they thought it was going to be, and surely not as lonely. Who would've known such a small town would be full of wonderful people to explore the hidden mysteries with?

But as the experiences drew to a close, the threat of what awaited the twins in 8th grade crept in and they had to go back home. They knew it all along but saying goodbye proved to be much harder than they thought it would be. Even if it was just for the school year, leaving behind so many friends wasn't something they wished to do. It seemed so permanent, though Dipper knew in about ten months time he'd be able to come back and see everyone again, and then make even more memories.

Everyone came to the bus stop to see the twins off. Dipper got to say goodbye to all of his friends, but he hadn't seen the person he wanted to say goodbye to the most: (Y/N).

He met her his first few days in Gravity Falls when she came into the Mystery Shack. They got off on the wrong foot when she said the things in his journal weren't real, but after she ran into Dipper's evil clones, she believed him. (Y/N) would spend hours with Dipper just looking at the journal and through those hours, they became best friends. Dipper hadn't ever met anyone who was so understanding of him and so nice and so pretty. Maybe it was just the fact that he was a teenage boy and she was a teenage girl, but Dipper was thoroughly convinced she was the best thing that would ever happen to him. Though, that was quite an assertion to make at the age of thirteen.

Dipper stalled for as long as he could when he realized (Y/N) wasn't there. He'd let his fist linger when Wendy offered dap, hugged his Grunkle Stan for far too long, and even pretended like he forgot his favorite shirt so he would have to dig all through his bag. Even after the added time, she still wasn't there.

With reluctance, Dipper turned to his sister. "Ready to head into the unknown?"

Mabel smiled. "Nope. Let's do it,"

Dipper let her board first, still hoping (Y/N) would come around before they left. However, by the time Mabel was on the bus, she still wasn't there. Disappointed, he stepped into the vehicle just before--

"No, wait!" (Y/N) latched onto his bookbag and pulled him down the steps. She already looked like she'd been crying, which Dipper found alarming. She wasn't ever the emotional type.

(Y/N) pulled him into a tight hug before Dipper could even say "hello," and he heard her sniffing pitifully. "You can't just go without saying goodbye."

Just hearing her sound so sad made Dipper want to cry as well. Even though he knew it wasn't very grown up to cry, he couldn't help it when his eyes began to fill with tears. He was going to have to adapt from seeing this girl every day to not seeing her for months. Dipper wasn't even sure he could last that long without seeing her, and even Christmas break seemed too far away.

"We'll see each other again," Dipper said, trying hard to make both himself and (Y/N) feel better. "Next Summer--"

But before Dipper could finish, (Y/N) began crying even harder. As much as Dipper wanted to comfort her, he wasn't really sure how, so he looked to Wendy for help. She came over and crouched down in front of (Y/N), placing an assuring hand on her shoulder. "Hey, next Summer will be here before you know it. And I'm sure there'll still be tons of mysteries for you to--"

"I won't be here!" (Y/N) cried, hiding her face in her hands. "My mom got relocated, so we have to move!"

"How far?" Mabel asked, sounding as nervous as Dipper felt.

"Indiana," She said. "So I can't even come back."

Her statement made Dipper want to stay in Gravity Falls until she left. Gravity Falls wouldn't be the same without her, and even though he'd have all his other friends around, a Summer break without (Y/N) sounded like no fun at all.
