House Rules

W h a t was THAT?! Holy flipping the RM switch! One minute he was sweet and kind-of-shy Namjoon, the next that gaze was soul-seep and searing RM-sexiness. Her heart was hammering and her face was flushed and Y/N was pretty sure that if she stood up, she'd fall flat on her butt.

She didn't think her brain (or body) was built to handle all of that. Not so suddenly! It felt like she had been shoved out into intense summer heat and then asked to run a marathon. Her heart was still beating that fast, even with space between them. Never had Y/N thought 'feeling weak in the knees' was a real thing, but now? It most certainly was a real thing. A terrifyingly real thing! She had been moments away from either leaning into him or falling to her knees.

Of course, gaping at him like a fish must have been extremely attractive... Ugh, her entire face was on fire! Why didn't she have more control over herself? Sitting down seemed the best start to calming down. Sitting on the small bed, Y/N was appalled at where her mind took her.

He could have put one finger on my shoulder ...and I would have tipped right down onto this bed...

...I would have let him...

He could have kissed me...

Oh, yes... I most certainly would have let him...

Something about the look in his eyes had consumed all rational thought. In that moment, Y/N hadn't thought about angry Netizens or the massive internet scandal it would have caused. She hadn't thought about how much it would hurt BTS and their overall fame, especially with such a conservative entertainment industry that witch-hunted people for just doing a co-ed collab.

What kind of person was she?! To be so captivated with desire that she threw all those things to the wayside. She felt horribly guilty. She didn't want anything bad to ever happen to Namjoon or his friends! Thank all things divine, he had enough rationality for the both of them to put a stop to it.

Y/N thought about Namjoon and felt herself flush once more. That warm electricity that had flooded her veins still buzzed with excitement just thinking about being near him. But... there was no possible way he was feeling that too. He was probably just unused to being alone with a girl... Pent up energy from all the years of being banned from dating. It wouldn't have matter who was in the room with him. Right?

For some reason, that line of thinking hurt. Like spear through the lung sort of hurt. It was like someone had zeroed in on all her weaknesses and just shot hooked darts into them. Gah, depressing... Rubbing her face just a bit, Y/N let out a sigh and looked up when she heard a knock at the door.

"You can come in," she managed to croak loud enough for whoever was at the door. It opened and surprisingly Suga was standing there. His sharp eyes and unsmiling face almost made her believe he was glaring at her. Almost. The tips of his ears were red which sort of shattered the cold angry image. Was he embarrassed?

He was quiet and Y/N just waited for him to speak. It was probably hard accepting a stranger into the close-knit household. Especially a female stranger. Even Namjoon had lost his head there for a moment. Which is what she was going to keep telling herself even though it hurt like crazy. For the sake of both them, her defenseless heart and the group's reputation.

Suga looked around the room and then his piercing gaze landed on her again, almost making her flinch. He looked a bit sharper, more aware and definitely like he could see something was off about her. Was her face still flushed? She absently touched her hair and looked away with a weak smile.

"Dinner is ready," he stated with an award bluntness. It seemed like he wanted to say more but he just nodded once and walked away. Better watch out for that one... He seemed really sharp and observant. Not that she was be hiding anything. Well besides her love for the group as an ARMY. Y-Yes, that was clearly all! Her aching chest disagreed, but she silently ignored it.

Gathering herself, Y/N hastily left her new room and managed to see Suga turning the corner down the hall. She followed him quickly. Good thing she had been able to catch the tail end of him, otherwise it might have taken her a lot longer to figure out where the dining room was. What a first impression that would have made.

Y/N followed Suga into an open kitchen area. It was connected to the dining room where, at a large table, all seven members sat. And one empty chair for her. She was to be seated right across from Namjoon, Lord of Unsettling Hearts. She'd be sitting next to Jungkook, who sat next to V. Jin sat at the head of the table with V on his left and J-Hope on his right. And Suga sat between J-Hope and Namjoon.

It was strange referring to everyone by their stage names. Namjoon was Namjoon. Well, until he did that dark gaze that set her on fire... Then she could see the sensual rap-star idol. But usually, he was just kind, sweet, a little clumsy, and thoughtful Namjoon. In truth, she loved both sides to him, though she felt more affectionate towards the sweet side... U-UH w-wait! Not 'love'! She wasn't allowed to think that way! How ridiculous of her! Right! House rules!!!

"So what exactly are the house rules around here?" Y/N asked which made Jin blink in surprise. Had her tone been so sudden? She had to calm down.

"Hm, well... I suppose it goes like this-" he started.

"1. Quiet hours are midnight until seven in the morning," Suga interrupted, fixing her with an intense stare before returning to his meal. Guess that was his favorite rule... His quickness to avoid her eyes made her sort of smile. He was unexpectedly shy...

"2. Dinner should be eaten as a group," Jin continued, poking Suga in the arm for interrupting him, "Jungkook is not allowed to have dessert until he finishes everything in front of him."

"Outdated rule," grumbled the youngest member, gobbling down more rice.

"3. All disagreements must be talked about with the entire group whenever there is free time and as immediately as possible," Namjoon chimed in, "Everyone must be present and each member gets a chance to speak." That made sense. Living together for so long, it was probably a very useful rule.

"4. No taking other members' snacks when they are clearly labeled!" J-Hope added with a grin, pointing his chopsticks at Jin, "My snacks, my territory, Mr. Worldwide." Jin grinned ruefully back at J-hope and before taking another enthusiastic bite of his dinner.

"5. Any sick or hurt member must tell the others as soon as he knows," V said softly, paying far more attention to his food than was necessary, "This also includes any family related issues or emotional issues that could harm performances or the wellbeing of said member or any other member."

"Wow, these are pretty in-depth," Y/N said in between bites, looking at Namjoon who smiles and shrugged a bit. Now that is the Namjoon she knew. It made her feel warm and pleasant and comfortable... Though the RM-type of Namjoon who had captured her in the bedroom hadn't been half bad either...

"We've had to live together for five or more years," he stated, the dimples in his cheeks pressed in as he halted in his eating just to smile and explain to her, "It can be stressful and cause a lot of strain. The rules are important to follow so we don't let things fester."

"Makes sense," She nodded, "How about bathing routines and laundry? Any chore rotations I should know about?" This seemed to make all of them halt in their eating. They looked at one another and then back at her. Right. They all had bathroom routines based around it being just guys living close to one another. Not to mention all their laundry was guy laundry. She was a girl. She'd be messing up that comfortable routine.

"Uh, we can figure something out," Jin finally said. Jungkook and Tae were looking a little red-faced, though Jungkook was more expressive in his embarrassment than Tae. Hobi choked out a nervous laugh and Yoongi focused so intently on his food it was like he was in his own little world. Namjoon's finger tapped on the table and when he glanced at her he immediately looked down.

Guess that showed her how much experience they had around girls... Poor boys. She felt bad for making them so nervous. Hopefully, this whole living-in-the-apartments thing worked out well... She really needed the second job. And...Namjoon... Being close to him was something she wasn't ready to lose. Not yet. Yes, she really hoped this live-in job worked.

Especially when so much was possible to go wrong.

That is the only decent image I could find of the inside of BTS's actual dining room and kitchen space! Please forgive her? I hope you are enjoying the story!
