"Faeries, come take me out of this dull world,
For I would ride with you upon the wind,
Run on the top of the dishevelled tide,
And dance upon the mountains like a flame."
-― W.B. Yeats, The Land of Heart's Desire
Chapter 10
I'm an idiot who allows strangers into her house and walks into flames. I was burning with embarassment, from my toes to my cheeks. This was Barry's fault, atleast initially it was, and then I went all Katniss on him. Probably thinks we are all crazy. Probably true.
It was Saturday. Saturday's aren't meant for you to be sitting on the couch all by yourself. Saturday's are for going to the movie or hanging with your friends or doing something that makes you feel not so lonely. My phone started ringing Barry's name coming up on the screen. I shouldn't help him, not again, but you see a Saturday is meant to be spent with friends. And he was one of the only friends I had. It was him or loneliness.
"Hey Barry." I answered.
"Hey Cece. Listen I'm sorry for everything. I know you probably want to hang up and that's okay, it's alright to want to hang up on me. I sold you out and you should hate me, but I was only bragging about how great you are. Cece you know you're like my only friend, right? C you there?"
"Yes I'm here."
"Still friends?" I considered. Who else would have given me a sweet long message just to say sorry? Stupid Barry. Stupid feelings.
"Yes."
"Great. I'm coming over to pick you up. I found something we can bond over." He chuckled. I could tell it was bad. Barry only laughed when he knew it was something wrong to do. Partially wrong and partially exciting.
"Barry this is illegal." I whispered staring at them set up.
"No, this is not illegal, okay it is, but this very very normal thing done by our teenage counterparts is called sneaking into a club. For us it's fine my dad's friend owns the club and knows were here, we can't get in trouble. So technically it is legal for us, we are allowed here, but for the sake of our dignity and pride just tell everyone you know we snook in."
"Got it. What are we watching anyways?" I questioned.
"Wait and see you'll love it." He grinned excitedly.
He started shaking with joy as they finished setting up. Wait I knew those faces. No way.
"Barry it's them. How? There kids!"
"Yes, but they're just an act, not like there drinking or anything." He said defending his father's business ethic.
"Craze that's there group name. There actually really good." They started warming doing backflips and splits. Showing off of course, I rolled my eyes at it.
"Look handsome is coming." My heart sped up like a monkey jacked up on bananas and soda.
I looked over and saw him there I took a sip of my cold Coke and almost spilled it all over myself when I saw him wink at some red head gawking at him.
My blood went Elsa cold.
"Let it go." I grumbled stupid men and there stupid jungle mate tendencies. Baron saw my antagonism at the red head and muttered about how it looked over dyed, but I wasn't listening. All I could see was a tattoo of a serpent on her arm and it gave me immense pleasure.
A serpent's serpent. Interesting.
She jumped on stage and threw her arms around him. Who was she? Why was she here? I could feel my arms prickling with uncontainable anger. What was I even angry about?
"Love you." She laughed jumping back off. He had this big smile. An it was as authentic as my love for dancing or Chinese food. I instantly felt like a idiot for even liking him.
"Oh C I'm sure she's like a sister." She went to give him a peck on the cheek, muttering something in his ear. The dancer next to them flamed obviously overhearing their conversation.
"I'm sure it was a funny sibling joke like 'Hey remember that time I fell and went smack into the concrete'."
"Or 'Hey remember that time I pushed you and you fell into the concrete'." I glared at Barry I knew he was trying to help, but it still didn't make me feel any less of myself. I was beyond embarrassed with myself. That's so good I didn't even like him or his friends. Goons.
"We can leave if you want." Barry said after awhile.
"No. I want to watch." Please be a train wreck. Please be a train wreck. I'm such a terrible person, but please let this be a train wreck. So I can go home and feel good about myself.
Of course it wasn't. It was nothing short of great. I had grumbled it, but Barry had no problem with repeating it over and over until my ears bled and my face flamed.
"I get it Barry they were amazing." I grumbled.
"If it helps. I think it would've been a thousand times better if you were in." He smiled. I smiled back.
"Of course you do. As my only friend it is your job to boost my ego to an unnaturally high level." He buffed out his chest, pulling in it so much he looked like an stuck-up news anchor.
"Of course my lady that is my job." I started laughing at his mock cool voice. We were probably the only kids in the room drinking soda laughing like loons about nothing remotely cool. We could've just went to my house to do this.
We tried to sneak out through the back, but angry swear words and dancers blocked us. So we watched with our diet cokes in one hand and a mock t.v remote in the other.
Ding ding ding fight! I chanted in my head.
The funny dressed polo boy was yelling at Blake for taking his group's spot in the club.
"Not much of a real act if you ask me. Last time I walked into the club and they were dancing. Let me tell you he was in this dog peeing on a fire-hydrant pose. I walked back out." I felt the chuckles bubble up my throat, but stopped myself before we got caught.
Barry would get me killed one day for telling me some type of stupid joke.
Probably a murder themed one.
"We will see. Competitions for Dancer's elite is in two weeks be there." Drake laughed bitterly,
"And why would we go to some stupid little trash contest?"
"Because winner gets $50,000." All the member's of Craze's eyes widened.
"And even for us rich kids," the polo kid laughed mockingly "that's some serious dough."
Author's Note: This is incredibly late, but I've been extremely busy lately. Anyways this was how I was going to end the chapter, but I changed my mind. Might use it for the enxt chapter though. Read if you like. :)
"What is he the Pillsbury dough kid?" I said eyeing polo kid.
"No, but he's got some dough on his shirt. That's pretty rich." There smack dab on polo's shirt was this big glob of cookie dough. We looked at each other faces turning red and then we did the most unmistakably nutty thing you can do in a secret spy-life-or-death situation.
We laughed.
