CHAPTER SEVEN
tortured together. (tw)
A LOT WENT DOWN after the fight at the Salvatore estate. At first, the day started sickeningly quiet. Anna woke up tired and sore. She had planned on staying home that day. But even on the weekends, that was never the case. The ginger tilted her head at the mirror she stared into, taking in her features. She held dark circles under her eyes from her restless nights. Her eyes held annoyance, since whispers were the reason she was up all night.
Back at the Salvatore Boarding House, Stefan sat alone in his room, just as restless as Anna was. He couldn't let his urges get the best of him, but he needed to feed. He couldn't drink the blood bags in the cellar. He also couldn't go out alone, he would most likely feed on a human. He needed someone to keep him in check.
He tiredly dressed for the day and stumbled to his phone, thinking of the only person who could help. When the sound of Anna's met his ear, he felt calmer, but his voice held urgency. Every fiber in her body was telling her not to go, but in her head she kept telling herself to ignore it. If Stefan told her to go to hell, she really would.
Her mother was passed out on the couch, so she slipped out the house as quiet as she could. Stefan had told her beforehand to meet him in the forest, where she stood waiting for Stefan's arrival. The day was more cloudy than sunny. She also knew the tomb vampires were still loose. They didn't have their rings, Anna knew that for a fact.
Behind her, she could hear heavy breathing. She had already known that it was Stefan, but just to be sure, she pulled her protection up for use.
When Stefan was in sight, she dropped her weapon. The vampire was still breathing heavy, which had confused Anna because he had just fed. A few steps closer and she could make out that the heavy breathing was followed by a series of grunts. That's when she realized the stake in his back. She hurriedly ran up to the man and pulled the stake out.
He exhaled, but looked at Anna an expression that said to leave when she could. She stared back at Stefan with perplexity until she heard a twig snap behind her. Anna glanced behind them while Stefan looked beside her shoulder, then at each other. Stefan slowly got up and moved toward the sound, Anna following closely behind him. It was dead silent. Stefan's wounds had healed and Anna's whispers were getting louder and louder.
The forest was eerily silent, until she heard a faint ringing in her ears. It grew louder and louder, and suddenly, Anna felt her eyes close as she fell onto someone's arms.
