I kept crying as I kept thinking of how much of a fuck-up I am. Then, I felt a weight on my shoulder. I wiped my eyes and looked at whoever it was. "Hey." It was Riley. He made a long pause before continuing. "I'm sorry." Then, he sat beside me. "I understand, you're depressed-"
"I'm more sorry, Ri." I tell him. I really was sorry. He didn't know what was happening inside my head. It's my fault I got pissed at him and cried in front of him. I couldn't take it. "Look, I'm sorry for not answering your question. By the way, no."
He looked at me with a confused expression on his face. "What no?"
"578 isn't a perfect square." Then we both giggled.
"Figured that out since a while ago."
"Hey, why did you follow me?" It's time I bombarded him with questions just like what he does to me everyday.
"Ms. Reynolds told me to follow you. So, here I am. She also told me a few things about you. Like how you wanted to step another step from being a fuck-up. So, I assume you're more than stressed right now?"
"Well, that isn't my only problem. I have lots of problems."
"Well, me too. Like my Science Test, my Advanced Algebra Quiz, and-"
"My problems are probably harder than yours."
"What are your problems?" This was the question I'm scared that he might ask. Well now, congratulations Nat, he just asked you that question.
"My depression over my mom who died 12 years ago is one. Another is my father's selfish wife. Then there's failing Statistics. School stress! I just can't miss that detail. Hmm.." I paused for a bit to think of more problems. "Bullying, and basically my whole being. I don't deserve to live anymore. What am I, a tiny speck of dust in an infinite galaxy, doing here? I should've just killed-"
"Shh.." Riley kept shushing as he hugged me from the back. I wasn't facing him. Then he rested his head on my back. "Hey, you deserve to be here. Don't say that! If you weren't here I might've been such a quiet student." he tells me.
"Iit's true that you're life is more depressing than mine, but that doesn't matter! Focus on your life. Make yourself happy. Live life with happiness." Then he looks at me through eye to eye. "Hey, let me take you somewhere."
I checked at my watch and smiled. "Your plan seems impossible, McDonough. I have to go home now."
I stood up, but he grabbed my wrist. "You know I get what I want, Right?" he then winks at me, and I roll my eyes. Of course! I'm dealing with Riley McDonough here.
"Fine. Lead the way." I said as I brought out a loud sigh. "But remember to get me home early."
"Not later than 8 pm, babe." afte saying that, I slapped his head. "Ow! What's wrong?"
"You have to figure that out." I said and winked at him as well.
+=+=+
"You brought me to some random oak tree beside school?" I asked.
"Yeah! This will be like our spot. We can tell each other stories about our days here, instead of a park."
"Ha! How unique McDonough! But not such a bad idea. I'm impressed."
"Told you this was quick. Guess, I have a drop you home. What time is it?"
"7:47 pm. C'mon Lets just walk you home."
"Thanks Riley."
"Thanks for listening too. Nat."
