It's funny how in life, you always assume one thing and it always ends up being the opposite. Turns out the "small boy" who took care of me was actually an immortal witch named Marda. She's a healing witch who only appears when someone is injured and people believe her to be a sign of betrayal to come. I was only informed of this after I spoke to Enol about the little boy.

"A little boy?"

"Yes, he checked my temperature and gave me a few pills." Enol scratched his scraggly beard and frowned.

"What colour were these pills exactly?"

I scrunched my eyebrows together, trying to remember, "Green, I think. Or maybe blue, I am not sure."

"This is bad," he muttered, "Have you told anyone else?"

"No, only you know"

He turned back to me, "You mustn't tell anyone, if Marda appears it is a sign that there is a traitor close by. Be very careful and never go somewhere without Jake or Saph, okay?" Enol checked his watch, "It's 7:20, you should go have breakfast. Remember, don't tell anyone."

As I trudged downstairs, I thought back to the events of yesterday. The machine would know my power by now. I wondered what it was. All my life I've always felt useless and average. I wasn't overly sporty and my limbs were too thin to hold anything heavier than 3 books. All my life I've been known as "the stupid blonde" and I've never felt special. But this was something new, a chance to shows the world that I was more than just some silly dittery girl.

Everyone cheered when I entered the dining room.

"Nice one!"

"Cool powers."

"Can you please be my friend?"

It felt like the whole world was talking at once. I almost fell over from shock.

Corey came and put an arm around my shoulders, "cheers to the girl who lived!" People cheered and held their glasses up. "Autographs and photos later, let her have some space." He steered me clear of the crowd.

"How're you holding up?"

"Not too bad. A little groggy. You?"

"Better than ever," he beamed, "the video of what you did was posted on our blog. You're famous, Val"

"Speaking of that... what did I do?"

"You were amazing! The jaguar was running at you but you just slammed a cage onto his head!" His words were accompanied by wild hand gestures. He patted my back, "Good job Val, who knew you could summon weapons at will?"

"Wait...what?"

"Your power! The perfect weapon or tool will always appear to you when you're in need."

"CoOooOOool! Does that mean I'm never empty-handed?"

"Yep! You'll always have a trick up your sleeve." Corey smiled, "I sure am glad a girl like you is one of my best friends."

I nodded and smiled. "Thanks for being there."
