I wish I could say that I adjusted quickly to living and training at the mansion. But I couldn't. Did I mention I was pretty scrawny? Yea, training was tough and every day left me exhausted and wanting to die. I had general training with all types of weapons in the morning with all the other students but in the afternoon, Saph and Corey took trained me and taught me about the world of magic.

The Cachet family had turned their home into a school for the Magically Gifted 260 years ago. Enol used to run it with his husband, who is Corey's grandfather. However, he disappeared 6 years ago so Enol was left to look after the place on his own. Most of the students were from prestigious families as magical blood normally runs in one family. The Cachet family used to be the head of the Magic Council. But after Corey's grandfather's mysterious disappearance the other families didn't believe they were well-equipped enough to run the magic community. The Barynn's took over and Corey is still irritated about it, holding a grudge towards the Barynn students. Namely Daria Barynn, who is probably the most popular girl at school.

I have to admit, I could see why Daria was popular, she was seriously pretty and had quite the talent for magic. Watching her perform spells was truly a stunning spectacle. But I never spend much time around her as she's always crowded by her group of friends or busy studying.

I've spent most my time here studying as well, as I found it much easier than the physical training. Coming to this school in the middle of the second year didn't help either, so I've spent all my spare time catching up to the others.

I was walking down the hallway, carrying 7 leather-bound books (that physical training actually paid off), when it happened. That moment in every cliché story, nerd girl bumps into bad boy. It actually felt like it was in slow-mo. One moment I was trying to get the books back to the library before the librarian killed me and the next moment I was falling towards the floor. But being at a school that trains warriors has perks. The boy caught me just before I hit the ground, my books, on the other hand, were not so lucky. They clattered to the floor, their pages spewing open like the insides of a dead animal.

"NOOOOO!!!!" I screamed, the librarian was definitely going to kill me now.

The boy sized me up as I looked at him down to up. He was tall, with jet black hair that looked messy, but not bad. He had a pretty wide frame, one that reminded me of a football player. Gosh, testosterone.

"Woah! Careful when you're walking around with so many books!" He exclaimed, looking down at me. I really wish was taller.

"Shit shit shit!!" The library was closing soon, I have no time to waste.

"What's wrong?" He looked extremely confused.

"I have to run to the library, bye!" I grabbed the books as I ran off down the hallway.

"Don't I get a thank you?" He called after me.

"THAAAANKKK YOUUUUUU" I screamed over my shoulder, still frantically running toward the library.

I got there just as she was locking up. She did not look happy to see me.

"Asteria, always late I see"

"I'm really really really sorry, this won't happen again. I had a wee accident in the hallway earlier"

She looked down at my pants, "you didn't pee yourself in your hurry to get here, did you?"

"Oh my gosh no!"

She definitely misunderstood what I meant by "little accident". I glanced at my watch, "It's 5:58 so technically I'm not late," I gave her my best smile.

She sighed, "Fine, just this once"

She took my books and went inside. Sighing with relief, I walked back towards my room.
