Chapter Three

Sixty-seven Years Later

Our family has grown. I have a new sister and brother. Alice can see the future, and she is OBSESSED with fashion. Jasper is an empath, meaning he can sense and influence emotions. He was a Major in the Civil War and part of a newborn army, so he's teaching me how to fight other vampires. It's so awesome. She has always lived with our diet, but Jasper hasn't. Drinking animal blood is a little new for him, even after thirty years. He isn't too bad when around humans, only tensing up when they smell extremely pleasant. Jasper is trying though, so that's all that matters.

The past several decades have been pretty tedious. We moved to small towns, attended high school, graduated, and moved away again. The most exciting part was when Alice and Jasper came. We currently live in Alaska, where Eleazar has been helping me control my gift. I can now direct my power through my hands. That way, I can defend myself from far away. It's a slow going process, but I will not stop until I have enough control to satisfy me.

Speaking of Eleazar, his family is like ours. They drink animal blood, so we consider them our cousins. They are known as the Denali Coven, where we are known as the Olympic Coven. Irina, Kate, and Tanya founded this coven after being turned by their mother. She was later destroyed due to creating an immortal child. Eleazar and his mate/wife Carmen joined them after leaving the Volturi. Only he and Kate are gifted, him with the ability to sense others gifts and her with electric shock.

We've already graduated, so I know what's coming. Carlisle will need us to move again. It'll probably be back to Forks, but that's fine with me. However, I can't go just yet. I need to finish my training. I'll miss them, but I know it's for the best. "Guys, can we have a family meeting?" I knew it! I called it! Edward chuckles, hearing my thoughts. "It's time to move again. This time we will be going back to Forks. Alice, Emmet, and Edward, Esme and I adopted you. Jasper and Rosalie are twins and our foster kids. Maddison, you will be Edward's biological cousin." I stand up, drawing the attention of everyone else. "I'm sorry, but I'm staying here for a little longer. I am still not one hundred percent in control of my gift. I'll travel the world for a few months, then I'll come home."

Esme stands up and hugs me, dry sobbing. "I'm going to miss you so much, darling. Call us every single day and visit whenever you want. If you need anything, don't hesitate to ask. We will come right back." I smile and let her go, only to be attacked by both Rosalie and Edward. "Guys, I'll be fine. Besides, Carlisle has friends that know me all over the world. I will hardly ever be alone." Everyone else hugs me, Emmett actually picking me up. "We love you, Maddison. Take care of yourself and don't worry about us. We will come visit when we can."

Carlisle and the others left to pack. They'll be done by tomorrow, leaving me in a mostly empty house. I walk along the halls, getting one last look of the full house. Photos line the wall, memories forever captured in perfection that human memories can't. I've been in this family nearly seventy years. I'm technically eighty-five years old. This second life has been good to me, and I remember everything with absolute clarity. That's my favorite thing about being a vampire.

Entering my room, I run straight to my most recent sketchbook. I've drawn through seventeen of these. The first three are filled with my human memories. I never want to forget my first family. I've sketched everything, from my brother as a baby to my father's last day alive. The rest of the books are filled with either my vampire life or just random thoughts and ideas. I rip out seven different drawings and run back to the living room.

"Everyone, can you come to the living room?" Edward comes in first, followed closely by the others. "I made each of you something right after graduation. I'd like you to have them now. It's just something of me to have down there with you." I hand them all out, sitting back down as soon as I'm done. "Maddison, these are amazing! I didn't know you could draw so well. Now we have something to hang in our room! Thank you, Maddie!" I beam, excited that she likes it! "You're welcome, Rosie! I just thought you'd all like them." They all look at each other. "Like them? Sweetie, we love them!"

For the rest of the day, I help them pack,taking my time and talking to them. Edward is leaving me this piano since he already has one in Forks. He's also writing a song right now about parting with me. I know it'll be hard without them. Carlisle, Esme, Edward and Rosalie have been there with me since my first day in this life. I don't know how long it will be until I see them again, but I will forever be a Cullen, and they will always be my family.
