The Other Cullen

Chapter 12

Author's Note: This chapter took a long time to write. I've had this idea for weeks but was only just able to put it all into words. At the end of this chapter is something that didn't happen in the books or movies, but it's a headcannon that I absolutely love. I hope y'all enjoy!

I stare at Paul, my jaw dropped. Suddenly, I hear a voice. Jasper's voice to be exact. "Oh hell no! Not my baby sister!" I should have known he'd react first. Edward has had time to process this. Jasper is just getting the flow of emotions going between Paul and I. Next thing I know, Jasper is rushing me back to the family, getting right in front of me. Emmett has finally caught on to what's going on, and he doesn't like it one bit. "Oh you have got to be kidding me! You're soulmate is a dog?" That last word makes me growl. "Emmett, his name is Paul and I highly suggest you use it!"

They all look at me shocked. I just yelled at them for the first time in my whole vampire life. What is happening to me? "It's because of the mate bond. From now on, you'll be extremely protective over him." Okay that's good to know. I'm not going crazy. "Edward found his soulmate in a human and everyone accepted that. I find my soulmate in a shape-shifter and y'all immediately try to stop it! This is ridiculous!" I pause before continuing, "No offense, Eddie. Honestly though, Jasper, you should understand. I have been around mates for 70 years and not had mine. Isn't that why you left Peter and Charlotte? You are being absolutely insane right now."
At this point I can feel the venom pooling in my eyes, forming tears that will never drop. It's a wonder that I'm not dry sobbing yet. "Sunshine, it's not that. We just don't want to see you get hurt." That just makes me even angrier. Since I was frozen at 16, my emotions are still that of a teenager: irrational and hard to control. "Oh so you think I can't take care of myself now? Newsflash, I'm a vampire just like the rest of you. Just because I was turned younger doesn't mean I'm weaker! I know I've been attacked by their ancestors, but that happened years ago!"

I stop talking and take an unneeded breath. Why do they think I'm going to get hurt? Wait a minute. His name is Paul, as in the hot head of the pack. He's the one who hates vampires with a passion. Oh my gosh he already hates me! Oh who am I kidding? He probably has his life all figured out. The last thing he'll want is a vampire who's going to be 16 forever. Paul most likely wants kids too. Why did fate set me up with someone who's just going to be disappointed in me for the rest of his life? My eyes well up again and I decide that I can't stay around him right now. I take off into the woods. I might as well go hunting.

3rd POV

Paul stares after his mate, wanting to go after her. Edward, reading his mind, is quick to step in. "Don't go after her. Right now she's trying to get her emotions in order and I'm trying to make sense of the thoughts in her head." Carlisle turns to Edward, worried about his youngest daughter. "What happened in her head that has you confused?" Edward looks at him and shakes his head.

"Half of what she was thinking came out of nowhere. I'm guessing it's because of when she was turned. She just went from one thought to the next until she ended up in a spiral. It started out with her thinking about how Jasper and Emmett didn't want her to get hurt. Maddison knew that wouldn't happen physically, so she knew it had to be mentally or emotionally. Then she remembered me telling her about the wolves when she came to visit us last year before traveling. I told her that one of them has a temper worse than a newborn. Anything else about them that she knows didn't come from me."

Alice looks at everyone before speaking up. "I spoke with her about the pack when I saw that she was coming home. Back in the thirties, she was attacked by Jacob's ancestor, which caused the treaty to be made. I wanted her to be prepared for it. I also warned her about which ones of you seem to hate our kind the most. Paul is one of them, but I never would have said anything if I had known she was your mate!" Paul whimpers and bows his head, ashamed of his previous actions towards his mate's family.

"Okay, back to the topic. After she remembered what Alice told her, she started self deprecating. Apparently she thinks Paul had a plan for his life that involved children, growing old, and staying in one place. Those are all things she can't do, so now she's upset and trying to calm herself down. Like I said, this is most likely just her frozen age talking. She is an immortal 16 year old, so her emotions are a little crazy at times." Edward finishes his explanation and turns to Jasper, who looks to be struggling with something. Before he can ask what's wrong, Jasper's whole demeanor changes.

Jasper's jaw clenches, alerting every vampire around him that something is wrong. His back straightens and his muscles tense as he stands at attention. Jasper's aura changes to one of pure power. The golden eyes that hold pain and love suddenly dilate, changing to hide any and all emotion. Edward moves to keep Bella behind him as he and his family turn their heads in an act of submission. The Cullen family all know that this person is no longer Jasper. For the first time in over a decade, Major has come out.
