I head to training in black skinny jeans, a black tank top, combat boots, and a mainly leather jacket. My newly dyed red hair looks amazing with this outfit!
Alice did my makeup, keeping it simple, thank God. I can't stand to wear too much makeup. I walk downstairs and am immediately drawn into a hug. "You look amazing! There's a sort of dangerous vibe to this outfit that I am living for!" I smile at Rosalie, thanking her for the compliment. "Well, if you like my clothes, just wait until after training to see what I got you and Alice from Paris!" My sisters squeal with excitement. That is something I have not missed these past couple of years. My ears are ringing! How did the boys deal with this? Edward laughs at me and shrugs.
I run with the family, except for Alice, to the clearing to meet the wolves. Jasper and Emmett immediately start play fighting while Rose and I spit on the Jeep Alice drove. We start talking about the last couple of months and what's been going on. Rose and Alice start talking about school, so I tune out and start to play with my powers.I'm so nervous about seeing the wolves. I haven't seen any of them since I got attacked by them. I mean I saw them in their human forms, but their animal sides are different. What if they attack me again? What if they're mad about me putting Jacob on the floor? I don't want to start a fight. What if they see my red hair and don't think?
Jasper grabs my hand and breaks m train of thought. "Sunshine, we won't let those animals hurt you. Stop worrying so much. Besides, they don't stand a chance against you or us." I smile and look at my family who are all nodding along. "I know you won't let me get hurt, but what if they just see the hair? It is red now because I didn't think about it. That was a stupid thing for me to do."Rosie shakes her head at me. "Your hair is it's natural color. They can't fault you for being ginger. And if they do, they're even more stupid than I thought." We all laugh and Emmett picks me up, swinging me around. I giggle and embrace the moment, like so many I missed on my travels. Jasper grabs me from him and runs away, laughing as Emmett chases us. This is their favorite game with me because I'm so young which means they can get away with it.
Somehow I end up on Jasper's back as Bella shows up with Edward. I'm surprised he allowed her to come. This is no place for a human, but since she's the one in trouble, I guess it makes sense. "Hi, Bella. I'm glad you came." Edward comes and kisses my head and she waves and smiles. My family and I hear a twig snap, so we get into more serious positions. I get off of Jasper's back and go stand beside Rose and Emmett. We have a hierarchy in our family, just like any other clan. Carlisle is the leader, followed by Esme because they're mates. Then, it's the rest of us. I like it that way, though. It avoids fights, which I absolutely hate.
"Let's get this over with. I want to be as far away from these leeches as I can as soon as possible." I scoff at these thoughts, which clearly belong to a wolf. They come out and I tense up slightly. They are mostly just as I remember. Some, however, are rather small. I guess some are pretty young, I'd guess no older than 14. This is a terrible thing for children that age to go through.
They don't trust us enough to be in their human forms." Edward makes sure to keep his voice monotonous. When have we ever hurt one of them? It's the other way around! Edward looks at me and tilts his head, saying he agrees with me. Carlisle responds before walking up closer to the wolves. "They came. That's all that matters. Will you translate?" Edward nods, and the training session begins.
"Welcome. Before we start, I'd like to introduce you to my other daughter, Maddison. She was here when the treaty was written, so she already knows the agreement. Jasper has experience with newborns. He will teach us how to defeat them."
"They want to know how the newborns differ from us."
"They are a great deal stronger than us. Our kind is never more physically powerful than in the first several months of this life." When he finishes with that, Jasper takes over.
"Carlisle's right. That's why they are created. A newborn army doesn't need thousands like a human army, but no human could stand against them." At this, he slips into his soldier voice, not quite as accented as the Major's voice, but close enough. "Now the two most important things to remember are first: never let them get their arms around you, they'll crush you instantly. And second: never go for the obvious kill. They'll be expecting that, and you will lose."
Jasper and Emmett step in the space between the wolves and our family, getting plenty of room to fight. "Now, Emmet is the strongest in our family, which means that he is the closest to a newborn in strength. That means that he'll be my example of what to do. After I'm done with Emmett, all of us will be fighting. You can just watch, or you can practice fighting with us. Don't hold back, Emmett."
"Not in my nature." Just like that, he charges at Jasper, going low. Jazz just stands there and takes Emmett's attack. Em throws Jazz, but he get right back up and runs towards him. Em goes to punch him, but Jazz ducks and slams him on the ground. "Never lose focus."
Next is Edward and Carlisle. It's kinda unfair with Edward's gift. Jasper watched from beside me, waiting for Edward to get cocky, like we both know he will. As he slams Carlisle down, Jasper walks up. "One more thing." He pauses as Carlisle gets up and pins Edward down. "Never turn your back on your enemy. Now that you two are done, let's have someone who you can't cheat with fight you. Georgia Girl, it's your turn."
I stand and walk over, getting closer to the wolves and Edward. I catch a breathtaking scent, but I don't know where it's coming from. Thankfully it doesn't make me thirsty, just curious. I shake it off as Eddie moves to fight. "No tricks, okay. Just your shield for now. You can show off later." I nod and we start to fight.
This time, we both use our speed to make this fight more real. I throw him back and rush over, just to get thrown through to the wolves. I make eye contact with a grey wolf before I stand and speed over, shoving Eddie against a tree. He seems dazed and unfocused, so I pin him down on the ground and sit on his chest. Now I know something isn't quite right.
"Eddie, what's going on? Why aren't you actually trying?" He shakes out of it and meets my gaze. I open my mind and we talk telepathically. That grey wolf that you looked at has something to tell you. That's all I can say. I nod and get off him, going over to Jasper. The rest of training continues and the wolves leave, but not before the grey one looks back at me.
