To say Azeala was annoyed was an understatement. Her mother had invited the man she had been dating and his daughter Anastasia over though Azeala had told her she planned on going out with Kloe. Instead, her mother just told her to invite Kloe and that the three girls could go out later if they wanted, after dinner was finished.
Her mother had been dating Mike for a year so naturally she had met Anastasia before, while it hadn't been a long time, it had been enough to know the girl was pretty cool. Not the type of person she normally hung out with but her laid back style was refreshing.
Despite the fact her mother had been dating Mike for a while, her mother still made Azeala get all dressed up for dinner even though they were going to be living together so soon. In fact, she didn't even see the point of this dinner unless they had news and what news could there possibly be?
Still, Azeala slid into her sweetheart neckline plain black dress neckline but she chose to downplay the outfit by putting on some flats and no jewelry except the studs her father had given her before he left.
Azealas phone rang and she snatched it from on top of her desk, "Hey, Kloe?"
"Yeah, I'm just calling to let you know I'll be there in a few."
"I'll be waiting." She hung up and quickly ran a brush through her light locks, tousling it a little and going downstairs.
She walked to the kitchen and saw her mother taking off the apron, revealing her deep purple dress and matching earrings, her mother was on the shorter unlike her, so she had on black heels but still fell a couple of inches shorter than Azeala.
"Set the table, sweetheart?" Her mother asked.
"Okay." Azeala began to put everything in place while her mother ran around the house adjusting small things. She almost wanted to laugh at the effort her mother was putting into everything, it was obvious the two adults cared for each other but regardless, her mother wanted to make everything perfect like a little school girl.
Her mother came back a few minutes later, with her hair fixed and the soft smell of a rose perfume lingering on her skin.
"Do you think this is enough?"
Azeala rolled her eyes, "It's more then enough. You look perfect, this place looks perfect, everything is going to be perfect tonight."
Her mother nodded, smiling, "Okay. I just wanted to say thank you so much, I know this must be so hard, especially without your father and I'm glad —"
The ding dong of their doorbell signalled guests and her mother went to open the door with Azeala trailing loosely behind her.
Almost as soon as the door opened, Azealas mother wrapped her arms around Mike and gave him a quick peck on the lips then pulled back and smiled.
Azeala fought the urge to roll her eyes at the two and gave him a quick hug when her mother finally let go. After that she looked behind him, spotting the mob of dark hair.
"Hey, Ana." Azeala he gave the girl a customary hug, "My friend Kloes coming over in a few so after dinner, we can all go out if you want to." She shrugged, pulling back and following the adults to the kitchen.
"That'd be cool."
They all sat down at the table and talked but their parents were the ones who dominated the conversation although the tried to get the girls to talk more by asking them questions about things like school. Azeala was slightly surprised when Mike mentioned Anastasia was transferring to her school because it was closer and also, she was slightly relieved the pair had decided on moving into her house because she didn't think she could start all over in a new school.
Before they Azeala knew it, twenty minutes had passed and the doorbell was being rung. Knowing it was Kloe, she walked to the entrance and opened the door, throwing herself into her friends arms before guiding her into the kitchen.
She felt Kloe freeze right next to her as they walked through the entrance to the kitchen and she turned around, cocking an eye brow at her best friend.
"That's the girl?"
"What?"
"The girl I saw making out with Ford."
Azeala looked in the direction of her eye sight and for a second she didn't register the words that came out of Kloes mouth or that Anastasia was right in front of her. Then, she did the first thing that came to her mind, she lunged.
