Azeala ran a hand through her blonde hair, releasing a small sigh and leaning back in her chair. She could see Kloe shake her head from beside her and Azeala lifted her hand, motioning the smaller group of girls who had just a routine to move to the side.
Azeala turned towards her best friend, "Cross all their names out."
The next batch came up to the middle of the room and she clapped her hands together, "You're the last group so you got the most time to practice, show me what you got."
A small and skinny pale girl stepped towards the front of the group and Azeala quirked an eyebrow at her, admiring the freshman's confidence.
Azeala motioned for Kloe to turn on the music and once it began beating through the stereo, Azeala immediately mentally crossed off the two girls in the back — too sloppy. From there she began deciphering who she could work on and who was a lost cause.
The girl in the front was good — very good. Every move was clean, sharp, and she made it look easy which Azeala liked, the type of confident girl she needed on her team.
When the music stopped pounding, Azeala gave all the girls in the room an even stare.
"You," She pointed to the best dancer she had seen that day, "what's your name?"
"Valerie."
Azeala nodded along and faced the girls who had all gathered around her, "Valerie has confidence, something you guys don't display. Doesn't matter if you know what you're doing, act like you do. I'm going to deliberate tonight on who makes it and who doesn't — if you make it, you better bring your confidence or you'll be out."
The girls nodded and turned, heading towards the changing room and Valerie started to turn away but Azeala caught her arm.
Valerie turned towards the cheer leading captain with a confused expression.
"Get dressed fast, we're going somewhere."
Despite the younger girls obvious confusion, Azeala only smirked. Valerie ran off and Azeala turned towards Kloe, who was scribbling something in the notebook.
"She's good."
"She is, I want her on the team." Azeala told Kloe.
Kloe stood up straighter and closed the notebook, "Pizza at Matteo's to celebrate her postion, the one she doesn't know she has yet?"
"Mhm."
Kloe smiled and twisted a lock of her hair behind her ear, " I'll tell the boys." She bent down and grabbed on to her duffle bag, heading towards the gyms exit and towards the boys football field.
"Make sure they don't ruin the surprise!"
"You know how Alan and the rest of the boys are." Kloe called behind her back.
"Savages." Azeala muttered with a smile, turning and walking towards the changing room.
Azeala shut her engine off and turned towards the back, facing Valerie, "This is Matteo's."
Valerie nodded her head slowly, "So why did you bring me here?"
"Well, you made the team of course."
Valerie did a small squeal, "I did? Oh my gosh, thank you!"
"Don't thank me, you're the one that got up and danced your ass off. This is basically a celebration for you, on me, a gift if you must. Once you're on the team, I have strict diet standards and I expect everyone to keep their binging under control."
"I understand."
"This is also for you to meat the girls and the football team. You'll like them and if you don't, suck it up, I don't either but I have to deal with it." Valerie laughed at Azeala's comment.
The younger girl nodded and they both slid out. Azeala locked her car just as Kloe parked her car and the other boys cars piled into the parking lot. Everyone clambered out their cars, walking towards the entrance.
"Oh, look, Ice Queen." She heard Alan call her.
Azeala pursed her lips, "Hello, Neanderthal's."
He gave a small bow, "At your service."
In response, Azeala rolled her eyes and turned towards the larger group of footballers and cheerleaders.
"Let's go." She waved them over and they all walked inside together, heading towards the back where they usually sat, the corner which had the largest tables since they obviously all couldn't fit in the booths.
They sat down and waved a waitress over.
"What would you guys want?"
"Five large pizza pies." Azeala said automatically, the waitress scribbled it down, then took everyone's beverages individually.
"So, I need to tell you, Ford is comi—" Alan's voice was cut off from beside her.
"Hey guys." Fords voice sounded in front of the table and Azeala almost screamed in disbelief. The nerve of him.
The table fell silent. the awkwardness becoming heavier in the air.
"Who is this guy?" Valerie's curious and clueless voice cut through the heavy tension blanketing the air.
"Meet the school Quarterback, my cheating ex boyfriend and scumbagg of the school, Ford. Oh, "Azeala stood up but her eyes caught onto someone familiar on the other side of the establishment and it felt like a blow to her stomach, "and the girl he cheated on me with, my soon to be sister, Ana."
She pointed across the room and gave a clap before sitting down, not caring if the restaurant had gotten quiet or that everyone around the table was staring at her in disbelief.
Instead of breaking down like they must've expected her to do, she gave a twist of her lips and sipped on her water.
"Where the fuck is my green tea?" She muttered to the group.
Alan shook his head next to her, smiling to himself.
Typical Azeala.
