Anastasia Rhodes was furious. Actually, furious wasn’t even the beginning to the things she was feeling as she stalked through the crowded house. She was searching for Jonah, her best friend. She had lost him upon arriving at the massive house party and it had since been an hour.

Ana just wanted to go home, take a good shower, and watch reruns of FRIENDS.

Instead, she was stuck at a house party in the next town over, annoyed out of her freaking mind, and left behind to wander until Jonah decided he had enough fun for the night. Although Anastasia should have been used to her best friend’s behavior she couldn’t believe that she hadn’t asked for the car keys before she had lost him in the crowd.

Cursing under her breath, Ana dodged a flying beach ball and quickly ducked into the slightly less crowded kitchen. She quickly scanned the crowd hoping she’d find the familiar face she searched for.

Sighing in disappointment, Anastasia pushed through the crowd and stepped out onto the back patio. Quickly wrapping her arms around herself, Ana stepped closer to the deck railing and leaned against it.

As her eyes found the glistening water of the pool on the ground, she wondered when she’d find her friend. It wasn’t like him to go off and disappear upon arriving at a party. Usually Jonah lingered behind with her and kept her company before he drifted off and did his own thing for an hour or two before he found her again and they’d leave.

Ana let a gust of oxygen leave her lungs and leaned forward until her forehead was resting on the wooden railing of the deck.

“Are you alright?” a deep voice asked off to Ana’s right. Anastasia stood up straight and wiped her head side to side before they stopped on a sitting figure in the far right corner of the deck.

“You scared me,” Anastasia blurted out as she pressed a hand to her chest. “Jesus, are you trying to give me a heart attack?”

The dark haired male laughed before he tipped the brown beer bottle back and drained it of its contents. He leaned forward and a smirk tugged at his lips as his eyes raked over Anastasia’s slim yet curvy body.

“I’m Ford,” he introduced himself as he pushed himself up and crossed the deck.

Anastasia pressed her back against the railing as Ford stopped inches away from the dark haired girl. He smirked down at her and Ana arched a brow at his proximity. She hated when someone stood too close to her liking.

“Like the car company?” she asked before she could stop the word vomit that had left her lips.

Ana felt her cheeks heat up as Ford chuckled.

“Yeah,” he nodded. “Like the car company.”

Anastasia didn’t respond, instead she just pressed her back further into the wood railing. She felt uncomfortable having Ford stand so close to her. To her, it felt intimate. Especially with the way his eyes raked over her body every few seconds.

“What’s your name?” he asked as he gently ran his finger tips down her smooth cheek.

She could smell the alcohol on his breath and Ana suppressed the urge to scrunch up her nose in disgust. “Ana,” she started as she took a step her left and finally put some space between the two of them. “My name is Anastasia.”

“A beautiful name for a beautiful woman,” Ford responded with a smirk.

Although Anastasia preferred to be boyfriend-less she knew when someone of the opposite, sometimes even same, gender was flirting with her. And Ford was definitely flirting with her.

Ana arched a perfectly plucked eyebrow and crossed her arms across her chest. She couldn’t resist the laugh that escaped her lips.

Ford’s smirk deepened as he edged closer to her. And although every fiber in her body told her that nothing good would come from a guy like Ford, she ignored those senses as she spotted her best friend emerging from the pool house down by the pool. Even from the distance that stood between them, she could see him fixing his button down shirt.

Angry that Jonah had ditched her the second they arrived at the party for a quick fuck, Anastasia ran her hands up Ford’s broad chest. She felt him place his large hands on her hips as he slowly pushed her up against the wooden railing.

As she laced her fingers together behind his neck, Anastasia pulled his face closer to hers just as she heard heavy footsteps bound up the deck stairs.

If Jonah could make her wait until he was done having his fun then she sure as hell could make him wait as well.
